Çalışma Giriş kısmı, üç bölüm ve sonuçtan oluşmaktadır. Giriş bölümünde Adana'nın coğrafi yeri, isminin menşei, şehrin kuruluşu ve kısa tarihçesi verilmiştir. Birinci bölümde, XIX. yüzyılın ikinci yarısından itibaren Adananın idari taksimatı, devlet salnameleri ile incelenmiştir. Vilayet teşkilatının kurulma sebepleri ve Osmanlı devletinde uygulanmaya konulması anlatılmıştır. İkinci bölümde; aynı tarihlerde şehrin demografik durumu ele alınmıştır. Müslüman ve gayrimüslim nüfus arşiv belgelerinden elde edilen bilgiler ile birlikte ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Üçüncü bölümde iskan siyaseti anlatılmış ve bu iskan siyaseti ile birlikte devlet ile iskan edilen aşiretler ve göçmenler arasındaki problemlere değinilmiştir. Ayrıca o dönemde Çukurova çevresinde bulunan ayanlardan da bahsedilmiştir. Sonuç kısmında ise; tezde ele alınan bu konular bağlamında aşiretlerin ve muhacirlerin iskanında bir çok sıkıntılarla karşılaşıldığı açıkça görülmektedir. Bu sıkıntıların aşiret ve muhacirlerin çıkardığı problemlerden kaynaklandığı ve devletin bu problemleri çözmekte yetersiz kaldığı anlaşılmaktadır. Bunun yanı sıra bütün çalışmanın genel bir değerlendirmesi de yapılmıştır.In this study, the demographic structure and the settlement policy of Adana from the second half of the 19th century till the fall of the Otoman Empire are examined. The study consists of an introduction section, three sections and a conclusion section. In the introduction section, the geographic location of Adana, the origin of the city?s name and a concise history of the city are given. In the first section, administrative seperation of Adana from the second half of the 19th century is examined through (salnameler). The reasons of the establishment of the city organization and its practise in Otoman Empire are explained. In the second section, demographic structure of the city in the same years is examined and put forward along with the information obtained from the muslim and non-muslim population archive documents. In the third section, the settlement policy is explained and the problems between the tribes, refugees,nand other immigrants who are settled by the state are mentioned. Besides, the dynasties around Çukurova in that period are also mentioned. In the conclusion section, it is clearly seen that, according to the issues which are mentioned in the thesis, many settlement difficulties are encountered by the tribes and immigrants. It is explained that these difficulties are caused by the problems tribes and immigrants caused, and that the state in insufficient in solving these problems.
