It could be shown that due to the strong basicity of the polyamidine a deprotonation of the proton donors occurred. In case of phenolic group containing chromophores deprotonation resulted in a significant bathochromic shift of the chromophore's longest wavelength absorption band by more than 100 nm. Beside the optical properties, the thermal behavior of the mixtures was also influenced by the interactions between polymer and proton donor. An increase of the glass transition temperature of the polymer about 140 K was attributed to an ionic network formation and molecular reinforcement effects. The complexes possess good film forming properties and sufficiently high thermal stability. Chromophores covalently bound to the chain end of an amino group terminated polyether (Jeffamine®) showed a similar behavior. Blends of such modified poly-ethers with poly (1, 8- octamethyleneacetamidine) exhibited improved compatibility.eninfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccessIonic complex formation of polyamidines with proton donor chromophoresConference Object110132-s2.0-84902687344N/A
