Öğe Determination of the Needs, Anxiety Levels and Coping Styles of the Mothers of Children Hospitalized at the Intensive Care Unit: A Cross-Sectional Study(OrtadogŸu Reklam Tanitim Yayincilik Turizm Egitim Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S., 2022) O?ul, Gülşah; Çalişkan, Zehra; Kocaöz, SemraObjective: This descriptive study was conducted to determine the needs, anxiety levels and coping styles of the mothers of children hospitalized at the intensive care unit. Material and Methods: The sample of the descriptive study consisted of the mothers (n=210) of children hospitalized at the Children Intensive Care Unit of Ni?de Training and Research Hospital. Data were collected with the Child and Parent Information Form, Child Intensive Care Family Needs Scale (Family Form), the State-Trait Anxiety Scale, and the Stress Coping Styles Scale by a face-to-face interview with the mothers. Results: The Pediatric Intensive Care Family Needs Scale (Child Intensive Care Family Needs Scale=165.71±34.64) scores of the mothers showed that their needs were high, with the need for proximity and trust the most and that for support the least prominent. The anxiety levels of the mothers were high (state anxiety score= 44.04±6.79; trait anxiety score=50.02±7.66). Seeking social support was the most commonly used approach among the Stress Coping Styles Scale subscales while helplessness was used the least. According to the correlation analysis, a weakly significant positive relationship was present between the mothers' anxiety scores and support needs and their submissive and helpless approach scores. Conclusion: The results indicate that health care professionals should inform mothers about the course of the disease, the treatment and the interventions and also make arrangements so that the mothers can see at regular intervals that their children are safe. © 2022 OrtadogŸu Reklam Tanitim Yayincilik Turizm Egitim Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S..
