Öğe Determining the psychiatric symptoms of the first class students of health school(2010) Beşer, Nalân Gördeles; Inci, FigenPurpose: This research was made in the purpose of determining the psychiatric symptoms of Ni?de University Zübeyde Hanim Health School, Nursing and Midwife Departments. Method: The study consists of the 1. class students of Ni?de University Zübeyde Hanim Health School, Nursing and Midwife Departments (99). All of the 1. class students who accepted to join the research were included (87). For collection of data, an inquiry form created by the researchers and 'Symptom Check List' (SCL- 90-R), were used. For the analysis of data, t test, Kruskall Wallis and Mann Whitney U test were used. Findings: Main symptom average (1.03±0.47) of SCL-90-R shows that the students have psychological problems. For example; somatization, anxiety, anger, phobic anxiety, paranoid thoughts and psychotism, medium level trouble at the sub-dimensions (between 0.5-1 points), obsessive compulsive symptoms, interpersonal sensibility and psychological problems at depression sub-dimensions (more than 1.0) were seen. Besides, students of midwifery section had more psychological symptoms at sub-dimensions in comparison with nursing students (p<0.05). Gender of the students, places where they lived longest, their socioeconomic levels and the places where they live at present time didn't result in any difference in terms of psychiatric symptoms (p>0.05). Discussion: First grade students are likely to have significant mental and emotional problems about mental status. This result are consistent with the findings in literature. At the first years of school, university students have difficulties, because of the hardships that life brings like being in a new environment and being away from their parents. At the same time, also the probation practices beside the theoretical courses take place in Health High Schools and the unbearable issues at the practice area may put students under higher pressure. Research findings show that the students of Health High School are a high risk group in terms of psychological trouble. Therefore, it is important to determine the problems resulted from training environment within a short term and to interfere with these problems before they get deeper.
