Öğe Failure of the standard coupled-channels method in describing inelastic reaction data: on the use of a new shape for the coupling potential(IOP PUBLISHING LTD, 2005) Erturk, S; Boztosun, I; Kucuk, Y; Karakoc, M; Aydin, SWe present the failure of the standard coupled-channels method in explaining inelastic scattering together with other observables such as elastic scattering, excitation function and fusion data. We use both microscopic double-folding and phenomenological deep potentials with shallow imaginary components. We argue that the solution of the problems for the inelastic scattering data is not related to the central nuclear potential, but to the coupling potential between excited states. We demonstrate that these problems can be addressed in a systematic way by using a different shape for the coupling potential instead of the usual one based on Taylor expansion.Öğe Gamma-ray spectroscopy of high spin states near N = Z in the f(7/2) shell(ACTA PHYSICA POLONICA B, JAGELLONIAN UNIV, INST PHYSICS, 1999) Bentley, MA; O'Leary, CD; Appelbe, DE; Bark, RA; Cullen, DM; Erturk, S; Warner, DDTwo pairs of mirror-nuclei, Mn-49(25)/Cr-49(24) and Cr-47(24)/V-47(23), and the odd-odd N = Z nucleus V-46(23) have been studied up to the f(7/2)-shell band termination states. Differences in energy between isobaric analogue states in these nuclei have been measured and interpreted in terms of Coulomb effects. Through this work, we have shown that Coulomb energies are extremely sensitive to nuclear effects such as particle alignments, band terminations and shape changes. This has allowed us to investigate the extent to which the Coulomb energy can be used as a probe of the nuclear structure.
