Öğe 16O+16O cluster states and their fusion to 32S: A non-monotonic potential description(Iop Publishing Ltd, 2022) Basak, A. K.; Merchant, A. C.; Freer, M.; Islam, M. Sujan; Ramon, Ragib Absar; Rahman, M. Mizanur; Tariq, A. S. B.Non-monotonic (NM) nucleus-nucleus potential families rooted in the Pauli-compliant Energy Density Functional (EDF) theory and especially their behavior at higher energies have been investigated using experimental data for O-16 + O-16 elastic scattering in the range 25 <= E-lab <= 1120 MeV. At E-lab = 75 MeV, the O-16 + O-16 NM potentials in a simple optical model (OM) are found to support five rotational bands of O-16 + O-16 bound and quasi-molecular states in S-32 with the cluster global quantum numbers G = 24, 26, 28, 30 and 32. The lowest band in the experimental spectrum starting at E-x = 7.5357 MeV, and having I-pi = 0(+), 2(+), 4(+), 6(+) and 8(+), has been located for the first time. In the simple OM, the NM potentials are found to reproduce the experimental O-16 + O-16 fusion cross-sections in the energy range 12-31 MeV. The present work shows that both the O-16 + O-16 cluster bands and fusion cross-sections in the Coulomb barrier region can be reproduced using NM potentials. I.; Curtis, N.; Munoz-Britton, T.; Spencer, S.; Wilson, G.In the present measurements a C-12 target was bombarded by a He-4 beam with energies from 14 to 21 MeV and the excitation function measurements for the reactions of the C-12(He-4, Be-8)Be-8, C-12(He-4, C-12[7.65, 0(+)])He-4, and C-12(He-4, C-12[9.64, 3(-)])He-4 were obtained using an array of 6 double-sided silicon strip detectors. The excitation functions are used to gain an insight into possible a-cluster structures in O-16.Öğe Experimental study of high-lying states in Mg-28 using the resonant elastic scattering of alpha particles(AMER PHYSICAL SOC, 2016) Walshe, J.; Freer, M.; Wheldon, C.; Soylu, A.; Achouri, N. L.; Ashwood, N. I.; Marques, F. M.The excitation function of Mg-28 above the alpha-decay threshold has been measured for the first time using the resonant scattering of alpha particles with the technique of a thick target in inverse kinematics. Thirteen new states are reported between E-x = 15.5 and E-x = 20.5 MeV, and suggestions for spin-parity assignments are given for two of these. Calculations of the branching ratio to a decay for these states as well as comparison of the measured cross sections to calculations suggest that alpha + Ne-24(g.s). clustering is not dominant in this energy regime.
