Öğe Effects of propolis on biochemical and microbiological parameters in carp (Cyprinus carpio) fillets exposed to arsenic(IRANIAN FISHERIES SCIENCE RESEARCH INST-IFSRI, 2015) Selamoglu, Z.; Duran, A.; Gulhan, M. F.; Erdemli, M. E.The purpose of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effects of propolis on biochemical and microbiological parameters in muscle tissues of carp (Cyprinus carpio, Linnaeus 1758) exposed to arsenic. A sublethal concentration of arsenic (0.01 ppm) and/or 0.01 ppm propolis were administered to fish for seven days. Biochemical parameters [pH, lactic acid, total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), and malondialdehyde (MDA) values] and microbiological changes (mesophilic and psychrophilic bacteria count) were determined in fillet of carp in control, arsenic only, propolis only and arsenic+propolis treatment groups. Results showed that the levels of MDA, lactic acid and TVB-N increased (p<0.05) while there were decreases total counts of psychrophilic, mesophilic bacteria and level of pH in arsenic group compared to the control group. Additionally, levels of pH, lactic acid, TVB-N, counts of psychrophilic and mesophilic bacteria in arsenic (0.01 ppm)+propolis (10 ppm) group significantly reduced compared to arsenic group (p<0.05). In conclusion, propolis can affects some biochemical and microbiologic functions and quality in the fillet of carp exposed to arsenic.Öğe Effects of various pollen concentrations on some biochemical and hematological parameters and paraoxanase activity in Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)(IRANIAN FISHERIES RESEARCH ORGANIZATION, 2013) Talas, Z. S.; Gulhan, M. F.Bee-collected pollen is reported as a health food with a vast range of nutritional and therapeutic effects. Biochemical (glucose, total protein, creatinine, urea, triglycerides, total cholesterol, ALT, AST, LDH, ALP, chloride, sodium, potassium and total antioxidant status) and hematological (total leucocyte count, erytrocyte count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, MCV MCH, MCHC) parameters in blood of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) treated to various pollen concentrations (0.5, 2.5, 5, 10, 20 and 30 ppm) for 96 h were determined. The results of this study demonstrated that the levels of total protein, creatinine, chloride and sodium in blood of fish which treated to different concentrations of pollen were not changed (P>0.05) compared with control group. In this study, the highest total antioxidant capacity of pollen was determined at 10 ppm concentration, but serum paraoxanase (PON) activities were not observed. It is concluded that concentration-dependent effects of pollen on blood of fish can be favorable in prevention of diseases.Öğe The determination of different effective concentration of ethanolic extract of bee pollen on biochemical analysis in liver, spleen and heart tissues of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum, 1792)(Iranian Fisheries Science Research Inst-Ifsri, 2017) Dastan, S. D.; Gulhan, M. F.; Selamoglu, Z.; Dastan, T.The aim of this study was to investigate the effective concentration of ethanolic extract of bee pollen on liver, spleen and heart tissues of fish. Bee pollen extract in various concentrations (0.5, 2.5, 5, 10, 20 and 30 ppm) was administered to fish for 96 h under aquarium conditions. The malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS), oxidative stress index (OSI) and levels of total free sulfhydryl groups were investigated in liver, spleen and heart in fish samples. MDA levels in liver, spleen and heart tissues of various concentration groups (2.5, 5, 10, 20 and 30 ppm) decreased (p<0.05) compared to the control group. The highest value of TAS (P<0.05) and the lowest value of TOS (p<0.05) occured in liver and heart tissues of 10 and 20 ppm concentration groups. The lowest levels of OSI were recorded in liver and heart tissues of 10, 20 and 30 ppm concentration groups compared to control group (p<0.05). The highest values of total sulfhydryl groups were recorded (p<0.05) in all tissues of 10 and 20 ppm groups compared with that in the control group. Finally it was observed that in liver, spleen and heart tissues of fish, the antioxidant effects of ethanolic extract of bee pollen depended on concentrations.
