Öğe Directional cellular growth of Al-2 wt% Li bulk samples(SPRINGER, 2009) Kaya, H.; Cadirli, E.; Gunduz, M.Al-2 wt% Li alloy was prepared using metals of 99.99% high purity in the vacuum atmosphere. The bulk samples were directionally solidified upward with a constant growth rate, V, (similar to 8.30 mu m/s) and different temperature gradients, G, (3.11-6.06 K/mm) and also with a constant G (6.06 K/mm) and different V (8.3-164.70 mu m/s) in the directional solidification apparatus. The cellular spacings, lambda, were measured from both transverse and longitudinal section of the specimens and expressed as functions of solidification processing parameters, G and V, by using a linear regression analysis. The effects of the G and V on lambda, were investigated. The experimental results were compared with the current theoretical and numerical models, and similar previous experimental results.Öğe Directional solidification and characterization of the Cd-Sn eutectic alloy(ELSEVIER SCIENCE SA, 2007) Cadirli, E.; Kaya, H.; Gunduz, M.The Cd-67.8 wt.% Sn eutectic alloy was prepared by melting together appropriate amounts of cadmium and tin (both of 99.99% purity) in a graphite crucible in a vacuum melting furnace. Then, this eutectic alloy was poured into graphite crucibles in a hot filling furnace and the samples were solidified. These samples were directionally solidified upward with different growth rate ranges (8.1-165 mu m/s) at a constant temperature gradient G (4.35 K/mm) in the Bridgman type directional solidification furnace. The lamellar spacings were measured using directional solidified samples. The variations of lambda with respect to V were determined by using linear regression analysis. The dependence of lamellar spacings X. on undercooling, Delta T, was also analysed. The variations of Delta T with V (at constant G) were investigated. According to these results, it has been found that with the increasing values of V, lambda decreases, whereas, Delta T increases for a constant G.lambda V-2, Delta T lambda and Delta TV-0.5 values were determined by using x, AT and V values. The results obtained in this work have been compared with the Jackson-Hunt eutectic theory and experimental results studied by Borland and Elliott, Clark and Elliott for the same alloy system, and also the similar alloy systems studied by Cadirli and Gunduz, Kaya et al. In order to achieve this aim, the specimens were solidified under argon atmosphere and steady-state conditions upward with different temperature gradients, G at a constant growth rate, V and with different V at a constant G for the Al-Ti alloys in the Bridgman type directional solidification apparatus. The cellular spacing,. was measured and expressed as functions of solidification processing parameters, G, V and T by using a linear regression analysis. The results were compared with similar previous experimental work and current theoretical models suggested for cellular growth. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. This alloy was directionally solidified upward with a constant growth rate, V (8.33 mu m/s), and different temperature gradient ranges, G (1.93-4.74 K/mm), and also with a constant G (4.74 K/mm), and different V (8.33-167.32 mu m/s) in the Bridgman type directional solidification furnace. The lamellar spacings lambda (lambda(a), lambda(a)*, lambda(m)*, lambda(M)*), were measured from both transverse section (lambda(a)) and longitudinal section (lambda(a)*, lambda(m)* lambda(M)*), of the specimens. The variations of lambda(i) with respect to G and V were determined by using linear regression analysis. The dependence of lamellar spacings lambda(i) on undercooling (Delta T) was also analysed. The variations of Delta T with G at constant V and with V at constant G were investigated. According to these results, it has been found that lambda(i) decreases with increasing values of G and V. Also Delta T increases with increasing V for a constant G and with increasing G for a given V, respectively lambda V-2, Delta T lambda, Delta TV-0.5 and lambda(2)G values were determined by using lambda(i), Delta T, V and G values. The results obtained in this work have been compared with the Jackson-Hunt eutectic theory and the similar experimental results (c) 2006 Published by Elsevier B.V.Öğe INFLUENCE OF GROWTH RATE ON MICROSTRUCTURE AND MICROINDENTATION HARDNESS OF DIRECTIONALLY SOLIDIFIED TIN-CADMIUM EUTECTIC ALLOY(WORLD SCIENTIFIC PUBL CO PTE LTD, 2009) Cadirli, E.; Kaya, H.; Gunduz, M.Sn-Cd eutectic melt was first obtained in a hot filling furnace and then directionally solidified upward with different growth rate ranges (8.1-165 mu m/s) at a constant temperature gradient G (4.35 K/mm) in the Bridgman-type directional solidification furnace. The lamellar spacings (lambda) were measured from both transverse and longitudinal sections of the samples. The influence of the growth rate (V) on lamellar spacings (lambda) and undercoolings (Delta T) was analyzed. lambda(2)V, Delta T lambda and Delta TV(-0.5) values were determined by using lambda, Delta T and V values. Microindentation hardness (H(V)) was measured from both transverse and longitudinal sections of the specimens. H(V) values increase with the increasing values of V but decrease with increasing lambda values. lambda-V, lambda-Delta T and lambda(2)V results have been compared with the Jackson-Hunt eutectic model and similar experimental results, H(V)-V and H(V)-lambda results were also compared with the previous work.
