Öğe Sustainable Development Education in Public Administration Graduate Programs: The Cases of Pamukkale and Nigde Omer Halisdemir Universities(Alexandru Ioan Cuza Univ Press, Fac Geography & Geology, 2021) Kulac, Onur; Tahtalioglu, HavaAdaptation of environmental literacy awareness to the education system and reflection of interest and attitude towards the environment in behavior is a critical element in order to ensure sustainable development. Turkey's interest in the environment and sustainable development began to increase at the end of the 20th century. Unfortunately, the reflection of this interest in the education system has not been at the desired level. The foremost aim of the study is to measure the level of consciousness and awareness about sustainable development of the students who are in the master's programs of the department of public administration. As a sample, students studying in the relevant field between 2018-2020 at Pamukkale University and Nigde Omer Halisdemir University Social Sciences Institute were selected. In this study, where the qualitative method was preferred, the data of 20 students who provided feedback to the 11-expression interview form were analyzed using the word cloud method. It was concluded that the participants began to examine the relationship between the environmental factor and sustainable development, understood the importance of sustainable development for future generations, but could not adequately reflect the consciousness and awareness they had achieved in their behavior.Öğe The Role of Education in Realizing Sustainable Development in Turkey(Alexandru Ioan Cuza Univ Iasi Fac Philosophy & Social-Political Sciences, 2019) Tahtalioglu, Hava; Kulac, OnurThe defects in the application of 1950s' Green Revolution brought the discussion in 1962 Silent Spring about the negative consequences regarding sustainable environment, which in turn created a new notion in 1980s that needed further work. In Turkey, environmental problems were first discussed within the framework of the 3rd Five-Year Plan (1973-1977). However, actual studies on environment and sustainable development began in the 2000s. The primary aim of this paper is to present sustainable development activities and policies in Turkey to determine the progress in this regard. Moreover, the effect and the role of education in sustainable development will be investigated. The main argument of the paper is that educational activities on environment are not designed to accommodate sustainable development. In this manner, this paper will offer new suggestions about the adaptation of environmental literacy to the education system and turning people's interest in attitudes towards the environment into behavioural patterns so as to establish sustainable development.Öğe Turkiye's sustainable water policies and planning initiatives as part of climate change action(Alexandru Ioan Cuza Univ Press, Alexandru Ioan Cuza Univ Iasi, 2023) Babaoglu, Cenay; Kulac, Onur; Erdogan, Oguzhan; Memis, Levent; Karasoy, AlpayClimates are formed throughout the world's life cycle and are vital for survival. Rapid changes in these climatic balances affect the maintenance of living beings and human life negatively, both directly and indirectly. Climate change is also an important variable that affects different sectors and organizational activities. One of the critical issues affected by climate change is water. In this context, there is a need for sustainable policies that will adapt to the new challenges emerging under climate change. This study aims to scrutinize the effect of climate change on Turkiye's water structure and resources in an effort to propose policy recommendations for long-term water management. To this end, the study examines the National Water Plan of Turkiye under traditional planning and/or management approaches (inactive, reactive, and preactive) and the proactive/interactive approach presented by Ackoff. The paper reveals that the National Water Plan of Turkiye consists of more strategies and policies with a reactive approach. Accordingly, it is recommended for Turkiye to give priority to Proactive/Interactive and/or Preactive strategies in climate change and sustainability.
