Öğe A new soluble Schiff base polymer with a double azomethine group synthesized by oxidative polycondensation(TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD, 2006) Oezbuelbuel, A.; Mart, H.; Tuncel, M.; Serin, S.A Schiff base monomer was synthesized by the condensation reaction between salicylaldehyde and ethylenediamine. The Schiff base polymer, with a double azomethine group, was prepared by oxidative polycondensation (OP) reaction of monomer in aqueous alkaline medium with NaOCl as an oxidant at 90 degrees C. The monomer and polymer were characterized by UV-Vis, FT-IR, H-1-and C-13-NMR spectroscopic studies, which revealed that the polymer synthesized by OP is composed of oxyphenylene (55%) and phenylene (45%) units. The polymer was soluble in aqueous alkaline, THF, DMF and DMSO. The thermal properties of monomer and polymer were evaluated by differential thermal analysis (DTA) and thermogravimetric (TG) analyses. According to TG, the 5% and 50% weight loss temperatures of the polymer were 200 degrees C and 800 degrees C, respectively.Öğe Thermally stable oligomer-metal complexes based on oligo-ortho-aminophenol and oligophenylazomethinephenol(SLOVAK ACADEMIC PRESS LTD, 2006) Mart, H.; Koc, M. C.; Muradoglu, V.; Yueruek, H.The oligo-ortho-aminophenol was synthesized by the oxidative polycondensation of ortho-aminophenol with air oxygen. The oligophenylazomethinephenol was synthesized by the condensation of aniline with oligosalicylaldehyde. Metal complexes of these oligomers with Cu(II), Co(II), Zn(II), and Ni(II) were synthesized and characterized. Based on the results of thermogravimetric analysis, synthesized oligomer-metal complexes were more stable against heat and thermooxidative decomposition than some polymeric Schiff bases and polymer-metal complexes. Additionally, the presence of metal ions increased the thermal stability of oligo-ortho-aminophenol, while the thermal stability of oligophenylazomethinephenol was lowered.
