Öğe A Comparative Analysis of Current Economic Development in the Balkan Countries(Int Burch Univ, 2012) Ucan, Okyay; Celebioglu, Fatih[Abstract Not Available]Öğe Determinants of ecological footprint in BRICS countries: a panel data analysis(Springer, 2023) Ucan, Okyay; Ozturk, Ilhan; Turgut, EcemThis study aimed to examine the variables that might affect the ecological footprint by using 1992-2015 data of the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa). The common correlated effects' mean group test was employed under the assumption of cross-sectional dependence and heterogeneity. In Brazil, an increase in energy consumption, technological development, and globalization decreased the ecological footprint by 0.043, 0.031, and 0.050 units, respectively, while an increase in urbanization increased the ecological footprint by 0.716 units. In Russia, on the other hand, no interpretation could be made because the coefficients were meaningless. In India, it had been observed that an increase of one unit in urbanization reduced the ecological footprint by 0.269 units. In China, it had been determined that a 1-unit increase in energy consumption reduced the ecological footprint by 0.043 units. In South Africa, the results could not be interpreted because the coefficients were insignificant. The results obtained vary according to the countries that revealed that local policies can also be effective on these variables. Therefore, countries have to act by examining the structures on their own to implement the policies they needed.Öğe The interest rate channel in Turkey: An investigation with Kalman filter approach(Econjournals, 2013) Sarac, Taha Bahadır; Ucan, OkyayThe monetary authority affects the aggregate demand and investment expenditure via controlling short run interest rates. It is important to satisfy the price stability together with working interest rate channel. This study aims to investigate the validity of interest rate channel in Turkey since the inflation targeting period starting with the year 2002. The sample period covers quarterly data from 1990:1 to 2011:3. It is stated that after the 2002 efficiency of interest rate channel increases. © 2013, Econjournals. Mostly, the relationship between energy and economic growth has been analyzed in certain country groups, whereas in this study, three different country groups were considered and compared. To this end, countries were categorized into three different groups, such as low-income developing, emerging market, and middle-income, and advanced economies. Thus, it was revealed whether the results varied across country groups. Ten country samples from each country group and a total of 30 country samples were utilized. The data of both EG and EC obtained over the period 1990-2022 were utilized. A panel LM test was performed to analyze the relationship between variables. As a result of the test, although a cointegration relationship existed between EG and EC in low-income developing countries, no cointegration relationship was found in emerging markets, and middle-income, or advanced economies. Therefore, it was concluded that the relationship between EC and EG might have varied according to the development levels of the countries. In addition, empirical evidence confirmed that a unilateral causality from EG to EC was determined only in low-income developing countries. These empirical insights are of particular interest to policymakers as they help to build substantial economic policies to sustain economic development.
