dc.description.abstract | In the advanced technical era, nanotechnology has come up as an upgraded and improved technology with the potential to expand and transform the entire agri-food sector, thereby boosting global food production, nutrient value, quality, and safety. Use of nanomaterials directly throughout these stages of production, as well as their absorption from the environment, can result in nanomaterials being present in the final product. Consequently, inquisitive approaches for the identification and characterization of nanomaterials in complex food matrices and toxicological data are essential for determining consumer risk. Physiochemical characteristics and size of nanomaterial decide its perniciousness. The toxicity of nanomaterials depends on their physiochemical characteristics and size. This nanomaterial ambiguity generates several environmental and health-related problems and uncertainties. Nanomaterials utilized in agricultural products, such as nanopesticides, nanoherbicides, and nanosensors, have a dubious relationship with the environment and cause damage. Negligence in the disposal of nanomaterials that are left after their function causes problems not only for humans but also for the environment, plants, and ecosystem. In this chapter, uncertainties, phototoxicity, health impacts, and agricultural and environmental concerns of nanomaterials in the food industry as a result of nanomaterial functioning have been described in detail. © 2024 Elsevier Inc.
