Coal is the world's richest reserve and the most reliable fossil fuel. At the same time, it has a competitive cost between energy sources. Clean coal technologies; increasing energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions caused by coal, and thus coal is becoming a cleaner fuel. Because of the energy efficiency gains, European countries consume less energy more than 10 years a decade ago. Also; in European countries, fossil fuels are less needed because of energy savings and renewable energy development faster than expected. However, despite its declining contribution, fossil fuels still continue to be the most important energy source in Europe. Despite all these developments; there is an increasing opposition to open pit and underground coal mines worldwide. Protests are organized in different ways by anti-coal lobbies; human chains, barricades, walks and online campaigns are some of these. But; Turkey's dependence on foreign energy and increasing balance of payments deficit due to energy imports, and maintaining the high share of coal in electricity generation system, using domestic coal reserves for the country of our 2023 targets in line is planned to contribute to the national energy system. Turkey last 5 years, the current account deficit 219.8 billion, while that of the 213 billion dollars in energy bills confirms this fact. In this research; anti-coal lobby activities and technological reality are discussed and objective solutions are offered to sector stakeholders.
