Özet
Developments in information and communication technologies were expected to facilitate the democratization process in authoritarian regimes. However, certain authoritarian regimes adapted to these developments in order to consolidate their rule. By reviewing the relevant literature and analyzing pro-government Twitter accounts, this work demonstrates the strategies of the Justice and Development Party in Turkey to legitimize its increasingly authoritarian rule via the internet. With this aim in mind, we focus on the social media team of the party called the AKTrolls and analyze their strategy of astroturfing. © 2019 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
