Özet

This study aims to understand the role of mindfulness according to locus of control orientations in conflict communication styles. As there is no single study that tried to look at the possible relationship between all of the listed variables, the authors proposed that increasing mindfulness may lead to healthier conflict communication styles with the moderating effect of external or internal locus of control. We used survey methodology with a two-week time interval for collecting the data. The participants were 651 university students. To test the hypothesized relations structural equation modeling was employed and moderating effects were analyzed with t test. The results revealed significant positive relationships between increased mindfulness and healthy conflict communication styles as confrontation, public behavior, self-disclosure and emotional expression. Meanwhile, locus of control played as a significant moderator role in the relationship between mindfulness and confrontation, private/public behavior and selfdisclosure. The current study might help to further understand the role of individual variables in the better management of interpersonal conflict which is very important when we consider personal, social and political arenas.
