Özet

This study aimed to determine the total antioxidant and oxidant status and oxidative stress index of honey samples which were collected from 11 different phytogeographical regions in Turkey. Honey samples were kept at 4 °C until analysis. Total antioxidant status, total oxidant status and oxidative stress indexes were defined with in vitro analyses in extracted honey samples, and then, the obtained data were compared statistically. These characteristics of honey were analysed by the most sensitive and reliable measurement kits developed newly. In addition, biological activities of honey samples originating from different regions were also compared. As a result of the study, the highest total antioxidant capacity was observed (PO.Ol) in the honey samples obtained from Duzce and Mugla regions. The results also showed that total antioxidant capacities of honey samples could change according to various phytoge- ographic properties of different regions in Turkey. Besides, antioxidant properties of honey depended on phenolic compounds that could change according to plant vegetation of honey obtained from different regions.
