Özet
Human babesiosis is a zoonotic disease caused by protozoan parasites that infect erythrocytes due to Babesia microti in the United States and B. divergens in Europe. The parasites are transmitted from a vector vertebrate host by the bite of a tick of the genus Ixodidae. It has also been reported that it is rarely transmitted by blood transfusion and organ transplantation. Especially in recent years, many more cases have started to appear in Asia, South America and Africa as well as in North America and Europe. It has been diagnosed by clinical and laboratory findings in people living in endemic areas or people who have recently traveled to such areas. The laboratory diagnosis of babesiosis is made by microscopic, serological, molecular and culture methods. It is clear that human babesiosis is a serious public health problem that has been increasing lately and requires close monitoring and effective intervention measures. © 2022 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
