Özet
Development and underdevelopment are among the most important problems of developing countries. One of the ways for the countries to overcome this problem is to determine priority sectors for development in the new world order, which has been going through a transformation with the globalization process. In determining and implementing these sectors, it is vital to consider the internal dynamics of the countries, pay regard to the regional differences, and make choices that are suitable for their potential. This chapter aims to explain empirically the relationship between international trade and the key regional development indicators (the relationship between per capita income, education, and health) for the regions in Turkey with the highest foreign trade performance, namely TRIO (Istanbul), TR41 (Bursa, Eski§ehir, Bilecik) and TR42 (Kocaeli, Sakarya, Duzce, Bolu, Yalova), concerning the Level 2 classification. The findings obtained show that international trade plays a very important and decisive role in regional development. © Peter Lang GmbH. Internationaler Verlag der Wissenschaften Berlin 2020.
