Öğe Cyber Security Awareness, Knowledge and Behavior: A Comparative Study(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2022) Zwilling, Moti; Klien, Galit; Lesjak, Dusan; Wiechetek, Lukasz; Cetin, Fatih; Basim, Hamdullah NejatCyber-attacks represent a potential threat to information security. As rates of data usage and internet consumption continue to increase, cyber awareness turned to be increasingly urgent. This study focuses on the relationships between cyber security awareness, knowledge and behavior with protection tools among individuals in general and across four countries: Israel, Slovenia, Poland and Turkey in particular. Results show that internet users possess adequate cyber threat awareness but apply only minimal protective measures usually relatively common and simple ones. The study findings also show that higher cyber knowledge is connected to the level of cyber awareness, beyond the differences in respondent country or gender. In addition, awareness is also connected to protection tools, but not to information they were willing to disclose. Lastly, findings exhibit differences between the explored countries that affect the interaction between awareness, knowledge, and behaviors. Results, implications, and recommendations for effective based cyber security training programs are presented and discussed.Öğe Deviant employee behavior in the eyes of colleagues: the role of organizational support and self-efficacy(Springer Heidelberg, 2017) Tuzun, Ipek Kalemci; Cetin, Fatih; Basim, H. NejatThe present study investigates the influences of multifocal organizational support in the context of deviant employee behavior by examining the potential associations with employees' self-efficacy characteristics. The study proposes that perceived multifocal support and self-efficacy have a direct relationship with deviant behavior, and that these two variables interact in their relationship with deviant workplace behavior. Using self- and peer-reported data from 225 academics, hypothesized relationships were investigated using structural equation modeling. The results indicate that two different forms of support (organizational and supervisory) strongly influenced two different forms of deviant behavior (organizational and interpersonal). Whereas perceived organizational support decreases organizationally relevant deviant behavior, supervisory support decreases deviant behavior toward colleagues. The results also showed that high self-efficacy moderates both the negative relationship between organizational support and deviant behavior toward the organization and that between supervisory support and deviant behavior toward colleagues. The study also discusses the implications of these findings for managers, along with recommendations for future research.Öğe Examining the impact of social technologies on empowerment and economic development(ELSEVIER SCI LTD, 2016) Nord, Jeretta Horn; Lee, Tzong-Ru (Jiun-Shen); Cetin, Fatih; Atay, Ozlem; Paliszkiewicz, JoannaGlobally, many women continue to face economic and technological challenges. To complicate matters, more than half of the population has no access to the internet. These issues have drawn international attention leading to global efforts by U.S. tech giants to provide world-wide access to the internet. Do social technologies play into the equation of economic development and empowerment for women? This paper reports results from studies conducted in Taiwan and Turkey regarding the use of five different social technologies platforms. Facebook-the largest social network worldwide-also is the most widely used platform in Taiwan and Turkey according to this research. Differences appeared between the two countries among the usage of other social platforms studied including Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Google+. Implications of this data-and data from other countries under study by the authors-will provide answers to women's empowerment and economic development in both developing and developed countries. The participants of this study were 540 university students from Turkey and Poland. The results showed that the need to belong is a significant predictor of usage intensity of SNSs, the consecutive influences of emotion disclosure and make connection intention significantly mediate this relationship, and some of these direct and indirect relationships are varying in the different collectivism conditions. All these findings were discussed according to the related theories and the findings in the literature with suggestions for future studies.Öğe Factor structure and measurement invariance of the oneness behaviors scale across India and Turkey(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2020) Askun, Duysal; Sharma, Radha R.; Cetin, FatihAs oneness reflects the much-needed worldview in the 21st century, exploring how oneness behaviors might play out in different cultures seem a worthwhile scientific pursuit in the service of humanity. The main purpose of the present study is to test whether factor structure and measurement construct of Oneness Behaviors Scale is valid on the Indian sample. A total of 1040 participants (651 from Turkey 389 from India) participated in the study for testing the cross-cultural equivalence of the scale. The results demonstrated limited partial invariance of oneness scale across Turkish and Indian samples with suggesting most of items have been perceived and understood differently, even factorial structure is similar. With the very limited findings of invariant items between these cultures, making further tests would add to our understanding of oneness behaviors in terms of both research and practice.Öğe Öğe How Do We Demonstrate Oneness as a Behavior? Operationalizing Oneness Through Scale Measurement(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2017) Askun, Duysal; Cetin, FatihAs an important concept for the world today, oneness has been a topic of several philosophical teachings and scientific disciplines. Considering the types of problems humanity is facing in different spheres of life, we thought it is worthwhile to ask what might be some daily examples that reflected oneness in behavioral terms. As part of our query that required completion of six separate studies, we have come up with a behavioral scale comprised of two factors. Focus on one's self reflected acting based solely on one's own needs and interests, consideration of the other represented behaving by taking into consideration who is also present in one's environment.Öğe ICTs, Empowerment, and Success: Women's Perceptions across Eight Countries(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2021) Cetin, Fatih; Urich, Tara; Paliszkiewicz, Joanna; Madra-Sawicka, Magdalena; Nord, Jeretta HornThe purpose of this study was to explore and compare women's perceptions of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), empowerment, and success among respondents in eight countries. The research sample consisted of 969 participants (137 from Georgia, 105 from Poland, 130 from Romania, 152 from Slovenia, 102 from Spain, 123 from Taiwan, 120 from Turkey, and 100 from the United States). Qualitative data analysis was used for exploring participants' perspectives among different cultures. The results showed that there were numerous differences among the respondents regarding their perceptions of Information and Communication Technologies, empowerment, and success. Positive experiences of ICTs were primarily related to simplifying communication and enabling easy access to information and methods for sharing it, while negative experiences were typically associated with privacy issues. The success of using ICTs was similarly related to the ability to increase awareness and simplify communication, both of which are necessary for women to reach specified goals and achieve success in the workplace.Öğe Improving job performance through identification and psychological capital(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2018) Tuzun, Ipek Kalemci; Cetin, Fatih; Basim, H. NejatPurpose - The purpose of this paper is to increase understanding of the link between various identification foci and performance, and to test whether one's psychological capital (PsyCap) can explain the influence of collective or relational identification on job performance. Design/methodology/approach - The study sample comprised 235 academicians working in a foundation university from Turkey. The questionnaires were practiced in two different time intervals with using an identifier coding system for avoiding common method bias issues. The authors used structural equation modeling with using AMOS v23.0. Findings - The results showed that PsyCap has positive effects on the job performance and work group identification flourishes employees PsyCap level; there is no evidence of any mediating effect of PsyCap on the relationships between various organizational identification foci and job performance. Originality/value - This study extends previous research by providing evidence of that rather than the other identification target (organization, work unit, and career) identification with supervisor influenced on job performance.Öğe Measurement invariance of the Cultural Intelligence Scale across three countries(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2022) Brancu, Laura; Sahin, Faruk; Gudmundsdottir, Svala; Cetin, FatihThe present study assessed the factor structure and measurement invariance of the Cultural In-telligence Scale (CQS) in university students from Romania, Turkey, and Iceland. A total of 730 undergraduates completed the 20 item-CQS. Confirmatory factor analyses indicated that the four-factor model, which consisted of metacognitive, cognitive, motivational, and behavioral di-mensions, fit the data better than alternative models (three-factor and single-factor models). Discriminant and convergent validity of the CQS was also confirmed. Furthermore, the invariance of test for the CQS showed that the four-factor model of the CQS is suitable across three countries and the pattern of factor loading is invariant across these countries. However, the results did not support scalar invariance for three countries, which showed that partial measurement invariance was only established. In conclusion, the students in three countries reacted to the items for evaluating CQ in different ways, according to the findings of this study.Öğe Proactive personality and job performance during cross-cultural service encounters: a moderated mediation model(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2023) Koksal, Onur; Guler, Murat; Cetin, Fatih; Sahin, FarukPurposeDrawing on the person-environment fit theory, in this paper the authors aim to propose and test a moderated mediation model that examines the relationships among proactive personality and job performance, cultural intelligence and emotional intelligence.Design/methodology/approachThe authors collected the multisource data from a total of 120 hotel service employees and the employees' immediate supervisors. The authors used the PROCESS, an SPSS macro, to conduct multiple regression analyses to test this moderated mediation model.FindingsThe results suggest that cultural intelligence mediates the relationship between proactive personality and job performance during cross-cultural service encounters. Furthermore, the indirect effect of proactive personality on job performance during cross-cultural service encounters via cultural intelligence is stronger for service employees who are high in emotional intelligence.Practical implicationsThis study has several implications for hospitality management in terms of developing effective strategies to foster cultural and emotional intelligence of service employees and improve the employees' performance.Originality/valueConsidering the limited number of studies showing why, how and in which situations personality can enhance performance, this study contributes to the literature by revealing the effect of proactive personality on the performance of service employees through important constructs such as cultural intelligence and emotional intelligence.Öğe The effect of occupational self-efficacy on work performance through intrinsic work motivation(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2018) Cetin, Fatih; Askun, DuysalPurpose Today, organizations work hard to improve the motivation of their employees and related knowledge, skills and abilities to enhance work performance. Among many other variables, self-efficacy proved to have an influential role in work performance. The main purpose of the current study is to investigate the role of occupational self-efficacy on work performance through intrinsic motivation by using a longitudinal analysis. Design/methodology/approach Participants were 76 employees from diverse organizations operating in an organized industrial region in Turkey. Participants filled in a weekly questionnaire during ten consecutive weeks. Findings Results of multilevel analyses confirmed our hypotheses by showing that occupational self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation have a significant influential role over work performance, and intrinsic motivation serve as a partial mediator in this relationship. Originality/value The study findings also reveal important information for organizational and managerial practices to improve employee motivation and performance.Öğe The effects of paternalistic leadership on task performance: Testing a moderated mediation model in Turkish organizations(Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft Mbh & Co Kg, 2021) Cetin, Fatih; Karabay, Melisa Erdilek; Sener, Irge; Elci, MeralDrawing on the findings from a serial moderated mediation model, this study aims to expand prior research by investigating the interaction between paternalist leadership and employee task performance. Study also aims to test the indirect effects of perceived person-organization fit and psychological ownership on the relationship between paternalistic leadership and employee task performance, through serial mediation models. Furthermore, the moderating role of organizational size in direct and all indirect relations between paternalistic leadership and task performance, through five different models is tested. Sample consists of 1,652 employees from various industries in Istanbul, Turkey. Hypothesized relationships were tested through structural equation modelling. The findings demonstrated the significant positive direct relationship between paternalistic leadership and employee task performance. Psychological ownership mediated the relationship of paternalistic leadership and task performance while person-organization fit had no mediating effect. Practical implications and further recommendations are also discussed.Öğe The Mediating Role of General Self-Efficacy in the Relationship Between the Big Five Personality Traits and Perceived Stress: A Weekly Assessment Study(Springer India, 2017) Sahin, Faruk; Cetin, FatihA cross-sectional study design may not be a reliable procedure for indicating the effects of stable individual structures on transient conditions in stress situations. In order to address this gap, we aimed to explore the role of the direct and indirect effects of the big five personality traits with the mediating effect of self-efficacy on perceived stress using a weekly diary method. The sample comprised 79 full-time workers who filled in a questionnaire that included the Big Five Inventory and General Self-Efficacy Scale at the initial administration and the Perceived Stress Scale over 12 weeks. Data were analysed using hierarchical linear modelling to examine the relationship between the big five personality traits and weekly perceived stress and the mediating role of general self-efficacy in this relationship. The results indicated that neuroticism and extraversion were significantly associated with general self-efficacy and perceived stress. The results further indicated that general self-efficacy fully mediated the relationship between extraversion and perceived stress. General self-efficacy partially mediated the relationship between neuroticism and perceived stress. Our findings highlight the importance of personality and self-efficacy for predicting perceived stress. Implications for future research and practice are discussed.Öğe The Pattern of Stable Personality in Predicting the Subjective Well-Being: The Mediating Role of Psychological Capital(TURKISH PSYCHOLOGISTS ASSOC, 2015) Cetin, Fatih; Turgut, Hakan; Sozen, H. CenkThe concept of subjective well-being that is considered to be counterpart of the "happiness" in the psychological science is one of the indicators of how individuals think and sense their lifetime. The main purpose of this study is to explore the effects of the big five personality in the light of the genetic or personality theories and psychological capital with regards to the process or activity theories on the subjective well-being, and to seek for the mediating role of the psychological capital in this process. The data were collected at twelve-day intervals from 361 employees working in various positions in a courier company with using survey method. The survey battery comprised of Well-being Scale, Big Five Personality Scale and Psychological Capital Scale. The data were analyzed with using Amos v20.0 and SPSS v20.0 programs. The findings showed a significant positive relationship between extraversion, agreeableness, psychological capital and subjective well being, and a significant negative relationship between neuroticism and subjective well being. In addition to that psychological capital mediated the relationship between the extroversion and subjective well being. The results allowed researchers to make casual inferences about the relationship between stable personality characteristics and psychological attributes indicated as intraindividual distal and proximal context in the well being literature.Öğe The Role of Big Five Personality on Predicting the Resilience: A Canonical Relation Analysis(TURKISH PSYCHOLOGISTS ASSOC, 2015) Cetin, Fatih; Yeloglu, Hakki Okan; Basim, H. NejatResilience is an ability to bounce back from adversities, setbacks or difficulties in face of stressful life events. The main purpose of this study was to analyze the role of big five personality in predicting the resilience and to determine the most influent dimensions of resilience in this process. Data were gathered from 286 university students with using survey method. The instruments were Resilience Scale and Big Five Personality Scale. Results of the canonical correlation analysis showed that extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness and openness to experience are positively, and neuroticism is negatively related to the resilience. Furthermore, it was determined that perception of self, social resources and social competence sub-dimensions of the resilience, and extroversion and consciousness sub-dimensions of the personality distinguished in predicting the resilience and personality respectively. Ultimately all results proposed that big five personality explain significant variance in resilience structure. The results were discussed in the light of the literature.Öğe The Role of Proximal and Distal Resilience Factors and Locus of Control in Understanding Hope, Self-Esteem and Academic Achievement among Turkish Pre-adolescents(SPRINGER, 2015) Celik, Duysal Askun; Cetin, Fatih; Tutkun, ErkutThe current study provides an important step in determining the relations among resilience, hope, self esteem, locus of control and academic achievement. Our sample is composed of 1,169 male junior soccer players selected via nationwide sports selection program. We have employed a cross-sectional research design to assess the relationship between variables by using structural equation modeling. Our results suggested that personal factors, familial resilience, and society but not peers serve as protective factors for elevating hope, self-esteem and finally academic achievement for pre-adolescent children. We have also found that resilience have differential effects when combined with an internal locus of control supporting Masten and Reed (2002)'s argument that resilience comes from operations of ordinary human systems. In addition, culture has become an important ingredient in the complex relationships between certain predictors and their outcomes and it is almost impossible not to consider its determining role in those relationships and contexts.Öğe THE ROLE OF SOCIAL TECHNOLOGIES IN WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT PERCEPTION An international comparison(Routledge, 2021) Madra-Sawicka, Magdalena; Paliszkiewicz, Joanna; Nord, Jeretta Horn; Cetin, Fatih[Abstract Not Available]Öğe Turkish Version of Self-Reflection and Insight Scale: A Preliminary Study for Validity and Reliability of the Constructs(Springer India, 2017) Askun, Duysal; Cetin, FatihThe current study aims to explore the validity and reliability characteristics of the self-reflection and insight scale originally developed by Grant et al. (Soc Behav Pers 30(8):821-836, 2002). The study includes two convenience samples, comprising a total of 659 university students. The test-retest reliability study was carried out in a private university in Istanbul. The validity study was carried out in a state university that is located in Samsun, a city in the black sea region of Turkey. Both schools recruit students coming from various regions in Turkey. The results revealed a 10-item scale as a better fit compared to the original 20-item scale. The presence of both subfactors self-reflection and insight were confirmed. The Cronbach's alpha for the whole scale was .70, .80 for the self-reflection and .65 for the insight subscales. The convergent and discriminant validity analyses revealed a negative relationship between private self-consciousness and insight scores, positive relationship between self-reflection and social anxiety plus external locus of control. There was no significant relationship between private self-consciousness and self-reflection scores. A negative relationship was found between insight and public self-consciousness, a positive relationship between mindfulness and insight scores, and finally a nonsignificant relationship between narcissism and insight scores.Öğe Understanding possible personal correlates of organizational citizenship behavior: Mindfulness and oneness behaviors(Sage Publications Ltd, 2024) Askun, Duysal; Cetin, FatihThe current study aims to understand the mechanisms underlying the predictive relationship between mindfulness and organizational citizenship behaviors especially targeted for other individuals inside the organizations. As part of this relationship model, oneness behaviors were suggested as an actor of mediation. A sample of 281 blue collar employees participated for the study with employing a multi-source data gathering method. In line with the self-regulation and Buddhist based conceptualizations, and previous related research, statistical analyses revealed significant effects of mindfulness on organizational citizenship behavior towards individuals (OCBI) after controlling demographic variables, and showed fully mediated roles of one and other sub dimensions in mindfulness-OCBI interaction. The current study brings a novel approach to mindfulness and organizational citizenship relationship by including oneness behaviors inside the research model while stressing the importance of interconnectedness and how it could be practiced inside the organizations.
