The study group consisted of 904 student volunteers from various undergraduate programs of a university in Central Anatolia. Simple and hierarchical multiple linear regression analyses, as well as t-tests, were used to analyze the data. In the preliminary analysis performed, females' depression levels and males' aggression levels are higher. The study findings revealed that self-theory negatively and significantly predicted aggression, whereas loneliness and depression positively and significantly predicted aggression in emerging adulthood. Another important finding showed that both direct and indirect relationships exist between self-theory and aggression. According to these findings, loneliness and depression play partially mediating roles individually, and fully mediating roles together, with regard to the relationship between self-theory and aggression.Öğe The Effect of Irrational Relationship Beliefs on Attitudes Toward Intimate Partner Violence in Emerging Adults: Moderating Effect of Gender(Springer Publishing Co, 2024) Yavuzer, Yasemin; Kilicarslan, SuatAttitudes toward intimate partner violence (IPVA) can be considered as approval/accept- ance or disapproval/nonacceptance of physical violence against the intimate partner, psychological abuse, and control of the intimate partner. Individual (such as antisocial tendencies and irrational relationship beliefs [IRB]) and social factors (such as tradi- tional norms and beliefs) shape IPVA. Studies on intimate partner violence (IPV) have revealed a significant relationship between IPVA and IPV. For this reason, IPVA is key to understanding IPV. This study was conducted to examine the effect of IRB on IPVA in Turkish emerging adults and the moderating effect of gender. Participants consisted of 551 students studying at a university in Central Anatolia. Of the participants, 374 were female, and the remaining 177 were male. All participants had at least one previous relationship experience. In the preliminary analysis performed, males' IPVA scores were higher than those of females. The study findings revealed that IRB and gender positively and significantly predicted IPV attitudes. Another important finding showed that the effect of IRB on IPVA was stronger for females. The results highlighted the importance of working on transforming irrational beliefs into rational beliefs in women's acceptance of IPV.Öğe The Effect of Non-Violent Resistance Program on Family Relationships and Parentship Perceptions of Parents(Dergipark Akad, 2019) Kilicarslan, Suat; Ordem, Serdal; Taltekin, Ash; Ardic, RecaiThe aim of this study is to examine the Non-violent Resistance program which is applied to the parents of the children in secondary level education and show aggressive behavior and its effects of on the family structure of the parents and their interactions, the stress they experienced, the inadequacy they felt, and the feelings of helplessness. The data of the study were obtained through the 'Family Assessment Scale' and Subjective Units of Disturbance Scale applied to the parents in the experimental and control groups. These scales were applied to the parents of the experimental and control groups as pre-test, post-test and follow-up measurements. When the results of the study were examined, it was seen that the program applied to the parents causes significant changes in the positive direction on the forms of interaction within the family, and it is seen that the parents have a meaningful difference on the levels of coping with the feelings of stress, disability and helplessness. According to these results it is considered that it will be beneficiary for the psychological counselors and researchers working in this area to apply Non Violent Resistance program to deal with violence and aggressive behavior in children and adolescents and to develop family relations.Öğe The mediator role of effective communication skills on the relationship between phubbing tendencies and marriage satisfaction in married individuals(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2023) Kilicarslan, Suat; Parmaksiz, IzzetThe aim of this research is to examine the mediator role of communication skills on the relationship between phubbing tendencies and marital satisfaction of married individuals. The sample of the study consisted of 712 adult married individuals from some cities in the Central Anatolian region of Turkey. 347 (48.7%) of the par-ticipants were female and 365 (51.3%) were male. The average age of the participants is 37.45. Marriage Satisfaction Scale, Phubbing Scale and Effective Communication Skills Scale were used as data collection tools. Pearson Correlation Analysis and Multiple mediation analysis (SPSS PROCESS macro (version 3.5-model 4)) techniques were used in the analysis of the data. There were significant negative correlation between the sub-dimensions of communication skills (ego-developing language, effective listening, self revelation, empathy, I-language) and phubbing; they were also found to be significantly positively correlated with marital satisfaction. Analysis results showed that phubbing significantly and negatively predicted marital satisfaction, and when effective communication skills were included in the analysis, the relationship between these two variables became nonsense. This result shows that communication skills are a full mediator on the relationship between phubbing and marital satisfaction in married individuals.Öğe The relationship between assertiveness and separation-individuation in adolescents(Pegem Akad Yayincilik Egitim Danismanlik Hizmetleri Tic Ltd Sti, 2020) Parmaksiz, Izzet; Kilicarslan, SuatThis study aims to determine whether assertiveness predicts restriction anxiety, separation anxiety and expectation of rejection, which are the sub-dimensions of Separation-Individuation Test of Adolescence. The study was conducted with high school students in a Central Anatolian city during the second semester of the 20182019 academic year. A total of 488 students, 324 girls and 164 boys, participated in the study. Regression, pearson correlation and t test were used in the analysis of the data obtained T-test results indicated that sex significantly differentiated the scores of separation anxiety while it did not differentiate the scores of restriction anxiety and expectation of rejection. Correlation analysis showed that there was a negative relationship between assertiveness level of adolescents and level of separation-individuation (restriction anxiety, separation anxiety and expectation of rejection). Regression analysis revealed that assertiveness was the negative predictor of separation anxiety, expectation of rejection and restriction anxiety. These results indicate that, for a healthy development in adolescence, a critical period in personality development, becoming assertive and escaping passiveness can have a significant contribution to the personality development of the individual. The findings of the research were discussed and interpreted within the framework of the literature and suggestions were made to researchers and practitioners.Öğe Turkish Young-Old Adults' Self-Perceptions of Aging(Springer, 2021) Kilicarslan, Suat; Yavuzer, YaseminIn this study, we examined the self-perception of aging of young-old adults living in Turkey's Central Anatolia Region within the scope of aging anxiety and future time perspective dimensions. This research is a descriptive study and in this study, phenomenology, a qualitative research method, was employed. The study group was selected by snowball and purposeful sampling methods. Participants were identified through the elderly relatives of the author/authors (snowball sampling). At the same time, purposeful sampling was used to ensure that the participants were in the 65-74 age range. The study group was composed of a total of 37 old individuals aged between 65 and 74 years living in Turkey. The interview instrument was a semi-structured questionnaire and included both open and close ended questions. The interviews conducted within the framework of the 'personal information form' and 'semi-structured interview form' administered to the participants and the data obtained by transcribing these interviews into written text were analysed by theoretical thematic analysis method by the researchers. The findings showed that aging anxiety, future time perspective and loneliness represent different sub-dimensions of self-perception of aging. The results of this study showed that the self-perceptions of aging of 65-74-year-old young-old adults living in Central Anatolia Region in Turkey are negative, and that these perceptions differ according to living arrangements but do not differ according to gender.Öğe Violence in Couple Relationships: Relational Factors, Family of Origin Experiences and Coping Strategies(Ani Publishing, 2020) Kilicarslan, Suat; Parmaksiz, IzzetViolence in couple relationships, both in Turkey and in the world, is amongst the major problems. This study is a descriptive study and phenomenology, a qualitative research type, was used as the research design. The research data were obtained through semi-structured interviews, which are qualitative research methods. Content analysis method was used to analyze the data. As a result of the research, it has been revealed that the violence experienced by married individuals in couple relationships reflects not only individual characteristics of individuals but also the relational experiences of couples and intergenerational family interaction.
