The analysis of macro and micro environmental factors and conditions is one of the main procedures in strategy formulation for a business company. Forecasting is a decision tool that has a variety of managerial application areas, one of which is the strategic decision-making. The study mainly discusses the potential uses of forecasting within the strategic, particularly marketing, management, and strategic decision-making. It points out both the internal and external strategic decision areas in companies and highlights the potential application areas of forecasting within these areas. The paper also highlights how functional forecasting is as a managerial tool that provides the information needed in critical strategic decision situations. © EuroJournals Publishing, Inc. 2008.Öğe The demand determinants for urban public transport services: A review of the literature(2012) Polat C.The future always includes some degree of uncertainty and reducing it is of special importance for decision makers. This is also valid for the decision makers in the public transport area. The uncertainty in the future demand and the need to know the factors that influence the demand make the area much interested in by the decision makers for the sake of planning and making right decisions. In this sense, knowing about the demand driving factors and determining future demand for public transport services are very basic managerial instincts for those who perform in the area. However, the subject is quite wide and public transport literature investigates the issue from many different perspectives. The issue is highly relevant to not only decision makers but also researchers. Nevertheless, the results of research in the area are spread out and therefore need to be combined together. This study reviews the current literature with respect to the factors that affect the demand for city public transport services and summarizes the findings. The literature is investigated especially from the operational point of view in order to clear the issue and to help the public transport operators, decision makers and researchers who make decisions and research based on the demand for public transport services and those who understand the factors that shape it. © 2012 Asian Network for Scientific Information.Öğe Trends in the market growth for proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC): A review of the market dynamics(2007) Polat C.; Kilinç N.Hydrogen is considered the energy of the future and there is an intensive research in the field. A Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) is an energy transformation system and transforms chemical energy into electric energy and is the most developed type of the fuel cells. The current research reports considerable progress into commercialization. Companies in different countries already launched various products into the market and have made significant progress. The figures about the existing market show that there is a sharp growth trend in the PEMFC market due to many potential areas of use of it including transportation, industry, and settlement and its convenience. Although there is a considerable amount of research that has focused on the technical side of the issue, which was mainly performed by the fuel cell researchers, the market side seems to be neglected: This side of the research is expected to be performed by business researchers, which is what this study attempts to do. This study attempts to review the growth trends in the PEMFC, market dynamics and other related aspects, within the context of some major countries and Turkey, from the business point of view. © EuroJournals, Inc. 2007.
