Öğe Aluminium determination in environmental samples by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry after solid phase extraction on Amberlite XAD-1180/pyrocatechol violet chelating resin(ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, 2004) Narin, I; Tuzen, M; Soylak, MA chelating resin, pyrocatechol violet (PV) immobilised on an Amberlite XAD-1180 Support, was prepared and its use for the atomic absorption spectrometric determination of aluminium was investigated. The XAD-1180-PV resin was characterised by infrared spectrometry and thermal gravirnetric analysis. The optimum pH value for quantitative sorption is 8-9, and desorption can be achieved by using 5.0-10.0 nil of 2 M HCl. The effects of diverse ions on the sorption and recovery of aluminium have been studied. The capacity of sorbent was 6.45 +/- 10.59 mg g(-1) Al XAD-1180-PV. Recoveries for aluminium from water samples were in the range 95-105%. The accuracy of procedure was confirmed by aluminium determination in certified reference materials. The method developed was applied with varying results to the analysis of natural water, haemodialysis fluids and microwave digested red wine samples from Tokat City. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.Öğe Application of solid-phase extraction for the preconcentration and separation of trace amounts of cobalt from urine(DUSTRI-VERLAG DR KARL FEISTLE, 2001) Soylak, M; Elci, L; Narin, I; Dogan, MA solid-phase extraction method using 4-(2-thiazolylazo) resorcinol (TAR) as chelating agent on Amberlite XAD-16 column has been used for separation/preconcentration of trace amounts of cobalt prior to its determination by atomic absorption spectrometry. Cobalt was retained on the Amberlite XAD-16 column at pH 6. Cobalt was desorbed from Amberlite XAD-16 by 1 M nitric acid in acetone. The effect of the various components of urine such as some anions and cations on the recovery of cobalt was also investigated. The method was applied to urine samples collected randomly selected six people living in Kayseri with satisfactory results (recovery > 95%; relative standard deviation 1 - 9%).Öğe Application of the sequential extraction procedure for dust samples from Kayseri-Turkey(PARLAR SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATIONS (P S P), 2004) Soylak, M; Uzek, U; Narin, I; Tuzen, M; Turkoglu, O; Elci, LSequential extraction procedure (acid extractable, reducible, oxidizable, and residual) proposed by Standards, Measurements and Testing Programme, formerly: Community Bureau of Reference (BCR) was applied for the determination of trace metals in the house dust samples collected from Kayseri Turkey. The determination of trace metals in the samples was performed by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The proposed method showed satisfactory recoveries, detection limits and standard deviations for trace metals determination in dust samples. Generally, most of the elements were found in the oxidizable and residual fractions. The total concentrations of trace metals analyzed were found in the range, for Cu: 62.4-119.8, Ni: 37.8-97.8, Cd: 2.54-4.27 and Cr: 38.7-53.5 mg/kg. The PV-metal ion complexes buffered to pH 6 were retained on an activated carbon column and were then eluted from the column with 1 M nitric acid in acetone. The effect of matrix ions on recoveries of the working elements was also examined. The recoveries of metal ions were in the range of 95-103%. The influence of major components of the urine samples, as interferents, was discussed. The method has been applied for the determination of Cu, Ni, Cd and Pb in urine samples collected from inhabitants living in Nigde City of Turkey with satisfactory results such as recoveries more than 95%, relative standard deviations 2 - 6% (n = 10) and detection limits under 60 ng/l.Öğe Comparison of sample preparation procedures for the determination of trace heavy metals in house dust, tobacco and tea samples by atomic absorption spectrometry(WILEY-V C H VERLAG GMBH, 2004) Narin, I; Tuzen, M; Soylak, MThe effect of wet ashing, dry ashing and microwave procedure for the determination of trace metal levels was investigated in house dust, tobacco and tea samples by atomic absorption spectrometry. The study of sample preparation procedures showed that the microwave method was the best. The recovery of trace metals was very good and precision and accuracy were compatible with standard reference material. The relative standard deviations for all measured metal concentrations were lower than 10%. The digestions of HNO3/H2SO4/HClO4 (4:1:1) mixture for house dust, HNO3/HSO4/H2O2 (2:2:2) mixture for tea and HNO3/H2O2 (4:2) mixture for tobacco were very efficient.Öğe Determination of cadmium, copper, lead and nickel contents of water samples from Tabakhane River and Akkaya Dam, Nigde-Turkey after preconcentration on activated carbon(INST LEBENSMITTELTECHNOLOGIE ANALYTISCHE CHEMIE, 1999) Narin, I; Soylak, MThe concentration of lead, nickel, copper and cadmium in the water samples collected from Tabakhane River and Akkaya Dam (Nigde City-Turkey) have been determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry after preconcentration and separation by sorbing the metal/4-(2-Thiazolylazo) resorcinol complexes on an activated carbon column. The concentration ranges of lead, copper and cadmium were 1.1-4.9 mu g/l, 0.7-2.5 mu g/l and 0.3-1.3 mu g/l respectively. The nickel content of the samples was below 1 mu g/l. The metal contents of the water samples were below the values given in the Water Pollution Control Regulation of Turkish Authorities. The metal contents of the sediment samples have been also determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry after digestion procedure with aqua regia.Öğe Determination of trace metal ions by AAS in natural water samples after preconcentration of pyrocatechol violet complexes on an activated carbon column(ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, 2000) Narin, I; Soylak, M; Elci, L; Dogan, MA simple preconcentration method is described for the determination of Cu, Mn, Co, Cd, Pb, Ni and Cr in water samples by flame AAS. Trace metal ions in water were sorbed as pyrocatechol violet complexes on activated carbon column at the pH range of 4-8, then eluted with 1 M HNO3 in acetone. The effect of major cations and anions of the natural water samples on the sorption of metal ions has been also investigated. The concentration of the metal ions detected after preconcentration was in agreement with the added amount. The present method was found to be applicable to the preconcentration of Cu, Mn, Co, Cd, Pb, Ni and Cr in natural water samples with good results such as R.S.D. from 3 to 8% (N = 10) and detection limits under 70 ng. 1(-1). The analytes were adsorbed on cellulose nitrate membrane filter as their ammonium pyrrolydine dithiocarbamate (APDC) complexes. Then membrane filter was dissolved by using nitric acid. The levels of the analytes in the final solutions were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). The analytical parameters including pH, amounts of APDC, sample volume, matrix effects, etc. have been optimized. The present method has been successfully applied for the FAAS determinations of analyte ions in a stream sediment reference material (GBW 07309), table salts and natural water samples with good results, e.g. recoveries greater than 95%, relative standard deviations generally lower than 9%. It is based on lead(11) ions extraction as brilliant cresyl blue (BCB) complex and its sorption onto Diaion HP-2MG, a methacrylic ester copolymer. The optimization step was carried Out using factorial design and the variables studied were pH, shaking time and reagent concentration. In the established experimental conditions, lead can be determinate with a limit of detection of 3.7 mug L-1 lead (N = 20) and a relative standard deviation of 7% for a lead concentration of 100 mug L-1. The accuracy was confirmed by analysis of a certified reference material, the stream sediment furnished by National Research Centre for Certified Reference Materials (NRCCRM), China (GBW 073 10). Effect of other ions in the procedure proposed was also Studied. The method was applied for lead determination in real samples of water, tea, soil and dust. Tests of addition/recovery in the experiments for lead determination in water samples revealed that the proposed procedure Could be applied satisfactorily for analysis of these samples. The mean concentration levels of nickel, copper, manganese, cobalt and cadmium were found to be 51.8, 44.3, 202.1, 25.2, 2.1 mu g/g, respectively. The highest levels of the trace metal ions within car parks and the streets with heavy traffic were noted. The lowest levels of the metal concentrations were found in the hospital and health centers. The levels of the metal ions were found below the mean world-wide contents of the street dust samples.Öğe On-line preconcentration system for cadmium determination in environmental samples by flame atomic absorption spectrometry(POLSKIE TOWARZYSTWO CHEMICZNE-POLISH CHEMICAL SOCIETY, 2005) Soylak, M; Narin, IA simple, environmentally friendly, economical and sensitive method for the determination of trace cadmium has been proposed. The method utilised flow injection on-line solid phase extraction coupled with flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). Determination was based on the adsorption of cadmium(II) ions on a mini-column packed with Chelex-100 at pH 7. The influence of eluent composition and concentration, pH of the solution, and flow rates on the preconcentration and elution steps were investigated. The effects of alkaline, earth alkaline and some transition metal ions on the adsorption of cadmium on Chelex-100 were also examined. The detection limit and recovery for cadmium were 17 ng L-1 and 100-104%, respectively. The proposed procedure was successively applied to the determination of cadmium content in black tea samples and in the following reference materials: stream sediment (GBW07310), sewage sludge (CRM144R), and sea water (CASS-4).Öğe Preconcentration-separation of heavy metal ions in environmental samples by membrane filtration-atomic absorption spectrometry combination(MARCEL DEKKER INC, 2004) Soylak, M; Narin, I; Divrikli, U; Saracoglu, S; Elci, L; Dogan, MThe preconcentration performance characteristics of cellulose nitrate membrane filter were investigated for the atomic absorption spectrometric determinations of traces metal ions in the environmental samples. The method was optimized for several parameters, including buffer pH, matrix, and type of the membrane. The investigated analyte ions were collected on cellulose nitrate membrane filter as their 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) (oxine) complexes. Then membrane filter was dissolved by using small amounts of concentrated nitric acid.,The levels of copper, iron, cobalt, and cadmium ions in the final solutions were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). The recoveries of analytes were generally in the range of 94-102%. No influences have been observed from the matrix of the natural water samples. The presented procedure was applied for the determinations of analyte ions contents of natural waters, some ammonium salts, and microwave digested black tea samples with satisfactory results. The relative standard deviations of the determinations were below 9%. The method was verified by the analysis of two reference standard materials (GBW 07309 stream sediment and NRCC-SLRS-4 Riverine Water).Öğe Preparation of a chelating resin by immobilizing 1-(2-pyridylazo) 2-naphtol on amberlite XAD-16 and its application ' of solid phase extraction of Ni(II), Cd(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Pb(II), and Cr(III) in natural water samples(MARCEL DEKKER INC, 2003) Narin, I; Soylak, M; Kayakirilmaz, K; Elci, L; Dogan, MA polystyrene divinylbenzene resin (Amberlite XAD-16) functionalized by 1-(2-pyridylazo) 2-naphtol has been synthesized and its sorption properties have been investigated for preconcentration of Ni(II), Cd(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Pb(II) and Cr(III) in natural water samples. The new resin (XAD-16-PAN) was characterized by thermogravimetric analysis and infrared spectrometry. The analytical parameters including pH, sample volume etc. for the quantitative recoveries of the analyte ions using XAD-16-PAN resin were investigated. The effects of alkaline, earth alkaline ions and some anions on the sorption of analyte ions were also examined. The recovery values were greater than 95% and the preconcentration factor was 200 for all analyte ions. The relative standard deviations of the determinations by flame atomic absorption spectrometry were less than 8%. The procedure was applied to sea water samples collected from Mersin Bay-Mediterranean Sea with satisfactory results (recoveries > 95%, relative standard deviations < 9%).Öğe Speciation of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) in tannery wastewater and sediment samples on Ambersorb 563 resin(MARCEL DEKKER INC, 2002) Narin, I; Soylak, M; Kayakirilmaz, K; Elci, L; Dogan, MA simple method has been established for speciation of chromium(III) and chromium(VI) in natural water samples. The method is based on the solid phase extraction of the Cr(VI)-APDC chelate on the Ambersorb 563 carbonaceous resin filled mini-column. After oxidation of Cr(III) to Cr(VI) by using H2O2, the method was applied to the determination of the total chromium. The level of Cr(III) is calculated by difference of total chromium and Cr(VI) concentrations. The influences of the various analytical parameters including pH, amounts of reagents, sample volume on the quantitative speciation values of chromium were investigated. Recoveries of more than 95% were found. No interferences due to major components of the natural water samples and some metal ions were observed. The detection limit based on the 3sigma criterion was 2.70 mug/L for Cr(VI). The presented method was applied for the speciation of the chromium in the tannery waste-water samples from Bor Organized Industrial Region-Nigde (Turkey) with satisfactory results (recoveries >95%, RSD's < 9%).Öğe The uses of 1-(2-pyridylazo) 2-naphtol (PAN) impregnated Ambersorb 563 resin on the solid-phase extraction of traces heavy metal ions and their determinations by atomic absorption spectrometry(ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, 2003) Narin, I; Soylak, M1-(2-pyridylazo) 2-naphtol (PAN) impregnated Ambersorb 563 resin was used as solid phase extractor of copper, nickel, cadmium, lead, chromium and cobalt ions in aqueous solutions prior to their atomic absorption spectrometric determinations. The parameters including pH, sample volume, matrix effects were also investigated. The relative standard deviation (R.S.D.) of the combined method of sample treatment, preconcentration and determination with atomic absorption spectrometry is generally lower than 10%. The limit of detection was between 0.21 and 1.4 mug l(-1). The results were used for preconcentration of analyte ions from natural water samples. The metal/PAN complexes were quantitatively retained on the activated carbon in the pH range 6-8. Metals retained on the activated carbon column were completely eluted with 2M HCl in acetone. This method was applied to the determination of lead, copper, cadmium and nickel in drinking water samples and good results were obtained (Recoveries >95%, relative standard deviations <7%, relative error <3%).
