Öğe New soluble azophenol polymers prepared by oxidative polycondensation(WILEY, 2007) Canakci, Dilek; Tuncel, Mehmet; Mart, Hasan; Serin, SelahattinNew azophenol polymers (P-1, P-2 and P-3) were synthesised by the oxidative polycondensation (OP) reaction of three different azophenol monomers in aqueous alkaline medium with NaOCl as the oxidant. The monomers and the polymers were characterised by elemental analyses, and UV-visible, Fourier transform infrared, H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR spectroscopic studies, which revealed that the polymers synthesised by OP are composed of oxyphenylene (C-O-C) and phenylene (C-C) units. The polymers obtained are soluble in dimethylformamide and dimethylsulfoxide. Average molecular weights of the polymers were determined by gel permeation chromatography. Additionally, P-2 and P-3 are soluble in water and methanol. On the basis of thermogravimetric analyses, 5 and 50% weight-loss temperatures of the polymers were found to be 218, 700 (P-1), 263, 609 (P-2) and 100, 809 degrees C (P-3), respectively, suggesting a high thermal stability. Thermal analyses using differential scanning calorimetry revealed that the azophenol polymers are highly amorphous, and melting peaks were not observed in the heating cycles. This suggests that all the polymers are highly amorphous. The azophenol polymers show a reversible trans-cis-trans isomerisation process. These properties of the polymer could be promising for their technological usage. The results suggest that the complexes have a 1:1 (metal ligand) molar ratio, involving mononuclear azo ligand with:an ONO donor set Metal ion uptake studies were conducted with a batch technique The results indicate that the azo ligand has high thermal stability and good metal extraction capacity.Öğe Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Polymer-Metal Complexes of Cu(II), Ni(II) and Co(II) Derived from Poly(4,5-dihydroxy-2,7-naphthalene Disulfonic Acid)(ASIAN JOURNAL OF CHEMISTRY, 2014) Tuncel, MehmetIn this study, poly(4,5-dihydroxy-2,7-naphthalene disulfonic acid) was prepared by meats Of an oxidative polycondensation reaction of 4,5-dihydroxy-2,7-naphthalenedisulfonic acid disodium salt (monomer) in aqueous alkaline Medium with NaOCl as the Oxidant at 90 degrees C Average molecular weights of the polymer were determined by get permeation chromatography. The monomer and the polymer Were I characterized by elemental analyses, gel permeation chromatography, thermogravimetric analyses and UV-Visible, FT-IR, H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR spectroscopic studies. In addition; the new Cu(II), Ni(II) and Co(II) complexes of the polymer were characterized by elemental analyses, UV-visible, FT-IR, and AAS, TGA and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The results suggested that the polymer and metal, ions in 2:1 molar ratio produced mononuclear; complexes with oxygen donor atoms. All synthesized polymer-metal complexes have , dimeric structures formed by the polymeric ligand units. The thermal stability of the polymer-metal complexes is higher than that of the polymer. Magnetic susceptibility studies showed that polymer-metal-complexes have various configurations. The metal ion uptake studies were conducted using the batch technique. The barium salt of the polymer was determined to be effective in removing some metal ions-via the batch technique.Öğe Synthesis, characterization, and histological activity of novel polydentate azo ligands and their cobalt(II), copper(II) and nickel(II) complexes(SPRINGER, 2008) Tuncel, Mehmet; Kahyaoglu, Huelya; Cakir, MehmetWe describe the synthesis and characterization of two novel azo ligands, 4,5-dihydroxy-3,6-bis(2-hydroxyphenylazo)-2,7 naphthalene disulfonic acid (H(2)L) and 4,5-dihydroxy-3,6-bis(2-hydroxy-4-sulfophenylazo)-2,7-naphthalenedisulfonic acid (H(2)L(1)). The Cu(II), Ni(II), and Co(II) complexes of these ligands were prepared and characterized by infrared, UV-Vis, (1)H- and (13)C-NMR spectra, atomic absorption spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, elemental analyses, thermogravimetric analysis, conductivity, cyclic voltammetry, and magnetic measurements. The results suggest that the complexes have a 2:1 (metal:ligand) molar ratio, involving binuclear azo ligands with an ONO donor set. Metal ion uptake studies were conducted with a batch technique. Preliminary histological studies were also made. The results indicate that the azo ligands have high thermal stability, good metal extraction capacity, and favorable dying properties with certain tissues.
