Öğe Happiness and domain satisfaction in Turkey(Inderscience Enterprises Ltd, 2017) Koksal, Onur; Ucak, Harun; Sahin, FarukLiterature on the economics of happiness usually indicates that happiness depends on actual life circumstances (income, health, marital status and cetera). In contrast, a psychological view of happiness suggests that subjective satisfaction with actual life domains comes together to predict happiness. Little is known about the relation of happiness to the different life domains in developing countries. The present study explores the factors that shape individual happiness at a micro-level in Turkey, in terms of satisfaction with several life domains. Using the 2008-2012 Turkish life satisfaction survey (n = 36.362) this study adds to existing literature on happiness in developing countries in its focus on Turkey. The data reveal that among the satisfaction-related predictor variables, satisfaction with income, marriage, and health were the top three predictors of happiness in all years. Implications and suggestions for future studies are discussed.Öğe Measuring the Relationship between Managerial Resourcefulness and Job Performance(ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, 2015) Sahin, Faruk; Koksal, Onur; Ucak, Harun; Iacob, AIManagerial resourcefulness includes generic competencies that enable adaptive responses to the demands of complex and volatile aspects of the work environment. However, there is no evidence that managerial resourcefulness increase job performance. In this study, we examined the relationship between managerial resourcefulness and job performance in a sample 119 first-line and middle managers. Data was collected through structured surveys administered to the managers and their superiors. The results indicated that managerial resourcefulness is positively associated with the superior ratings of job performance. The findings also showed that managerial resourcefulness explains additional variance in job performance over and above that of demographic variables and the Big Five traits of personality. These findings suggest the importance of managerial resourcefulness as a critical predictor of job performance. Implications for future research and practice are discussed. (C) The Authors. Price convergence studies were generally on the aggregate level, and investigated the convergence of inflation among countries. This study aims to investigate the convergence of agricultural price disparities among the EU member states, based on different individual agricultural products. The analysis shows the existence of agricultural price convergence among the EU member states since 1991, even including some countries were not members of the EU. Furthermore, the speed of convergence differs among agricultural products and also between the sub-periods as 1991-2000 and 2000-2008.Öğe The Catch-up Process of Relative Wages in European Union New Member States(SLOVAK ACADEMIC PRESS LTD, 2012) Ucak, HarunIn 2004, European Union underwent the largest single expansion, both in terms territory, number of states and population. After that, economic effects of accession for new member states have been studied with different aspects in European Union integration literature. This paper focus on labour market aspect and it is aimed to investigate the existence of catch-up process for eight EU new member states' relative wages. The relative wages are measured by a ratio of new member states to old member with Germany as a representative country and the convergence analysis is applied to testify the process of wage disparities. The results show the existence of convergence and that the wages in new member states have been closer to high-wage level countries' after joining EU.Öğe TOTAL FACTOR PRODUCTIVITY AND EXPORT RELATIONSHIP: THE CASE FOR AGRICULTURE SECTOR IN FOUR MEDITERRANEAN COUNTRIES(NATL ACAD MANAGEMENT, 2012) Ucak, Harun; Ozturk, Ilhan; Sarac, Taha BahadirThis study investigates the export and productivity growth in agriculture sector for 4 selected Mediterranean countries (France, Italy, Spain and Turkey) during 1975-2007. Despite increasing interest in the relationship between trade and productivity, very limited studies have been conducted on the causal links between exports and productivity in agricultural sector. The causal relationship between productivity and export is a debate still; there has been a more reasonable approach in other sectors such as in industry. In this study, the empirical analysis results provide support to a long-term relationship between agricultural export and productivity only for Italy among the 4 countries. The results suggest that the relation between agricultural export and productivity has been ambiguous in the long term still.Öğe Total factor productivity and export relationship: The case for agriculture sector in four Mediterranean countries(2012) Ucak, Harun; Ozturk, Ilhan; Sarac, Taha BahadirThis study investigates the export and productivity growth in agriculture sector for 4 selected Mediterranean countries (France, Italy, Spain and Turkey) during 1975 2007.
