Özet
This study documents the factors causing marine pollution in terms of its main sources and anthropogenic activities, and provides a broad view of marine pollution and ship accidents in the World and in Turkey. It also discusses the rules, contracts and laws in the World and in Turkey for regulations of control, storage, and treatment of oil waste. It further describes the operational rules and controls of the waste reception facilities that are established to prevent marine pollution from ship-generated wastes and explains why these facilities are needed in terms of their capacities and units. It then provides a list of examples of waste reception facilities from the World and Turkey based on their selected samples. Finally, it evaluates selected waste reception facilities operated in Turkey in terms of to what extent they meet the needs and how they are operated, considering installation and operational costs and measures to be taken to improve these facilities.
