| dc.description.abstract | Kaptan geminin kılavuzudur, fakat seyir sırasında bulunulan yer hakkında bir bilgisi olmayabilir. Sorunlu liman ve kanallara girildiğinde kullanılan haritalar yeterli derecede rehberlik edemediği için kılavuz kaptanlardan yardım alınır. Coğrafi keşiflerle birlikte yeni yollar bulunmuş olsa da İstanbul ve Çanakkale Boğazları, Karadeniz, Akdeniz gibi deniz yolları önemini korumaya devam etmiştir. Avrupa'da, boğazlardan gemilerin geçişleri sırasında kaptanların yaptıkları dikkatsizlikler nedeniyle büyük kazalar yaşanabiliyordu. Bu tür sorunlara karşı bir süre sonra gemilerin kılavuz kaptanlardan yardım almaları zorunlu hale getirilmiştir. Osmanlı Devleti de boğazlardan gemilerin geçişlerinde sorun yaşamamak için 1856 yılında boğazlarda kılavuz kaptanlığı uygulamaya başlamıştır. | dc.description.abstract | A captain is the navigator of a ship; however, he may not have sufficient information on the current position during navigation. Since the maps used when a ship enters problematic harbors and channels may not provide sufficient navigation, captains receive assistance from maritime pilots. Although new routes were found with geographical discoveries, Istanbul and Dardanelles Straits, the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea and similar maritime lines kept their importance. Major accidents were possible in Europe due to the carelessness of the captains of the ships passing through the straits. It was made compulsory to receive assistance from maritime pilots to solve these problems. The Ottoman Empire also started to apply maritime pilot application in 1856 to prevent problems with the ships passing through the straits. In this study, the duties and the importance of the maritime pilots in the straits, and the companies that were established for the purpose of providing maritime pilots have been examined | |
