Mustafa Kemal'in 19 Mart 1920 tarihli genelgesine istinaden Niğde'de seçim çalışmalarına başlanmıştır. 6 Nisan 1920 tarihinde yapılan seçimler neticesinde Niğde'den; Mustafa Hilmi Bey (Soydan), Vehbi Bey (Çorakçı), Zeynel Abidin Bey (Bayhan), Ratıpzade Mustafa Bey (Soylu) ve Ahmet Hakkı Paşa (Sütekin) milletvekili olarak seçilmişlerdir. Osmanlı Mebuslar Meclisi'nden intikal eden Ata Bey (Atay) ile birlikte Birinci Dönem Niğde Milletvekili sayısı altıya yükselmiştir. Bu milletvekillerinin tamamı Meclis'in Birinci Dönemini (23 Nisan 1920?16 Nisan 1923) tamamlayamamışlardır. Ratıpzade Mustafa Bey 26 Aralık 1920 tarihinde vefat etmiş; Zeynel Abidin Bey ise 11 Ekim 1920 tarihinde istifa etmiştir. Birinci Dönem Niğde Milletvekillerinden Ata Bey iki kez Dâhiliye Vekâleti Vekilliği görevini yürütmüştür. Vehbi Bey'in çalışmaları neticesinde ise Aksaray Kazası 14 Ekim 1920 tarihinde Müstakil Liva haline dönüştürülmüştür.
Our homeland began to be invaded by the allies with the peace armistice signed on after the World War I. The Turkish nation protested these invasions through meetings and organized by setting up associations. Niğde also participated in the National War by being organized after the invasions.Niğde sent soldiers to the frontlines throughout the country and took an active part in the war especially in Adana and Pozantı frontline. The Anatolian community joined the National War under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Pasha as Istanbul government shows weakness against the invasions. Stating that liberation will be possible by the nation?s determination and decisiveness, Mustafa Kemal Pasha started operations in this way immediately after he arrived in Anatolia. The Turkish Grand National Assembly became incapable of working with the invasion of Istanbul officially on March 16th, 1920 and completely closed on April 11th, 1920. Thereupon, with the commands of Mustafa Kemal Pasha, the Anatolian community mobilized to open an assembly in Ankara relying totally on nation sovereignty.Based on Mustafa Kemal's notice dated 19th March 1920, works for elections started in Niğde. As a result of the elections done on 6nd April 1920, Mr. Mustafa Hilmi (Soydan), Mr. Vehbi (Çorakçı), Mr. Zeynel Abidin (Bayhan), Mr. Ratıpzade Mustafa (Soylu) and Ahmet Hakkı Pasha (Sütekin) were selected as the members of the Great National Assembly. With Mr. Ata (Atay) coming from the Ottoman Assembly of Representatives, the number of Niğde First Term Parliamentarians raised up to six. Not all of these parliamentarians could complete the first term of the assembly (23th April 1920 ? 16th April 1923); Mr. Ratıpzade Mustafa died on 26th December 1920 and Mr. Zeynel Abidin resigned on 11th October 1920.Mr. Ata represented the Internal Affairs Ministry twice. The Aksaray District became an independent (liva / province) on 14th October 1920 with Mr. Vehbi?s efforts. Hakkı Pasha worked as a member of Amasya and Elcezire Courts of Turkish Independence. All the First Term Niğde Parliamentarians took part in the First Group in the assembly. They were all in favor of National War and worked actively both before and after they were elected.Niğde participated in the First Assembly, which founded the new Turkish Republic, with six delegates.
