Özet
Bu makale Woodrow Wilson ile Hegel arasındaki ilişkiye odaklanmakta ve Hegel’in Wilson üzerindeki etkisini göstermeyi amaçlamaktadır. 20.yy’ın ilk dönemin en etkili düşünürlerinden biri olan Woodrow Wilson, Amerika’nın kurucu felsefesini endüstriyel hayattan ve kentleşmeden doğan sosyal ve siyasal problemlere çözüm sunamamakla itham etmiş ve bu problemlerin üstesinden gelecek yeni bir felsefi ve siyasal sistem arayışına girmiştir. Bu arayışında Alman tarihselciliğinin ve devlet düşüncesinin endüstriyel hayattan neşet eden sıkıntıların karşısına güçlü bir yürütme erki teklifinde bulunduğunu fark etmiştir. Alman tarihselciliğinin en etkili isimlerinden biri olan Hegel bu dönem Amerikan akademisinde tanınıyordu ve bu çevreler üzerinde güçlü bir etkiye sahipti. Hegel ile üniversitede hocaları aracılığıyla tanışan Wilson, Hegel’in felsefesini fakat özellikle tarihselciliğini ve organik devlet düşüncesini benimsemiş ve böylece Lockecu liberalizmi reddederek anayasal sistemde bir reform arayışına yönelmiştir. Sonuç olarak Hegel’in Wilson’un sadece bürokrasi kuramını değil fakat tüm düşünce dünyasını şekillendirdiğini söylemek mümkündür
This study focus on the relationship between Woodrow Wilson and Hegel and aims to indicate the influence of Hegel on Wilson. When Woodrow Wilson, one of the most prominent thinkers of first decade of 20th century, has blamed the USA’s founding philosophy for failure to deal with the social and political problems that arise from industrial and urban issues, he began to search a new philosophical and political system to overcome these defects. In this research he noticed that German historicism and German state theory was offering a vigorous executive power to manage the industrial life. Hegel, outstanding member of German historicism, has been known in American academies and had a profound influence on these circles. Wilson, who has been met with Hegel in University via his mentors, adopted his philosophy, especially his historicism and organic state thoughts, to reform the constitutional system by rejecting the Lockean Liberalism. As a result, it can be said that Hegel has shaped not only Wilson’s theory of bureaucracy but also his whole world of thought.
