Özet
Yükseköğretim beşeri sermayeyi geliştiren önemli bir yatırımdır türüdür. Aslında, beşeri sermayenin en yüksek düzeyde uzmanlaşmış biçimidir ve ekonomik büyümeye katkısı oldukça önemlidir. Bu nedenle yenidünya ekonomisinde “kalkınmanın motoru” olarak görülmektedir. Yükseköğretim devletin vergi gelirlerini yükseltir, yatırım ve tasarrufları artırır, aynı zamanda daha girişimci ve modern bir toplum yaratır. Bunların dışında ulusal sağlık düzeyini iyileştirir, nüfus artış hızının azalmasına yardımcı olur, teknolojiyi geliştirir ve yönetişimi güçlendirir. Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, 1970-2006 yılları arasında Türkiye’de yükseköğretim ile iktisadi büyüme arasındaki ilişkinin yönünü ve büyüklüğünü VAR modeli ile ortaya koymaktır.
Higher education is an important form of investment in human capital development. In fact, it can be regarded as a high level or a specialized form of human capital, contribution of which to economic growth is very significant. It is rightly regarded as the “engine of development in the new world economy”. Higher education may create greater tax revenue, increase savings and investment, as well as lead to a more entrepreneurial and modern society. It can also improve a nation’s health, contribute to reduced population growth, improve technology, and strengthen governance. The basic aim of this study is investigating direction and magnitude of the relationship of higher education and economic growth in Turkey for 1970–2006 in a VAR model. …
