dc.description.abstractBu çalışma, Eylül 2008-Haziran 2009 tarihleri arasında Adana ilinde bulunan güvercinlerde kan parazitlerinin araştırılması amacı ile yapılmıştır. Çalışma süresince her ay farklı kümese gidilerek halk elinde bulunan 1 yaş üzeri ortalama 20 güvercin rastgele belirlenmiştir. Çalışma grubunu oluşturan güvercinler kan parazitleri yönünden incelenmiş ve bu amaçla bu güvercinlerden kan frotileri yapılmıştır. Hazırlanan kan frotileri havada kurutulup, laboratuvarda metil alkolde tespit edildikten sonra Giemsa (%5) ile boyanmış ve kan parazitleri yönünden mikroskobik muayeneleri yapılmıştır. Bunun yanı sıra güvercinler ve barınaklarında vektör kan emen sineklerin varlığı araştırılmıştır. Adana yöresinde muayene edilen toplam 196 güvercinin 128 (%65.3)'inin Haemoproteus columbae ile enfekte olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca muayenesi yapılan güvercinlerin birçoğunda hastalığın vektörü olan Pseudolynchia canariensis bulunmuştur. H. columbae gametositleri taşıyan evcil güvercinlerdeki ortalama enfekte eritrosit sayısı 295.4 olarak belirlenmiştir. Bunun yanında incelenen kan frotilerinde güvercinlerde bulunan diğer kan parazitlerine rastlanmamıştır. Mikroskobik muayenede Haemoproteus columbae'ye en fazla Haziran (%91.3), en az ise Şubat (%26.6) ayında rastlanmıştır. Güvercinlerde aylar açısından Haemoproteus columbae'nin pozitifliği istatistiksel olarak önemli bulunmuştur (P<0.01).Sonuç olarak Adana yöresinde güvercinlerde Haemoproteus columbae bulunduğu saptanmış ve mikroskobik olarak yüksek düzeyde tespit edilmiştir.Anahtar sözcükler : Evcil güvercin, Haemoproteus columbae, kan paraziti, Adana
dc.description.abstractThis study was carried out in order to detect the blood parasites of domestic pigeons in Adana province between September 2008 and June 2009. During the study, each month, different poultry-house was visited and average twenty pigeon which were more than one year old, were selected randomly. All pigeons were examined for blood parasites and blood smears were prepared in order to detect of blood parasites. The blood smears were fixed in methanol and stained with Giemsa?s solution (5%) and were examined for the presence of blood parasites. In addition, the pigeons and their sheds were investigated for vector insects. The examination of the blood smears showed that 128 out of 196 pigeon (65.3%) were infection with Haemoproteus columbae. Throughout the study, Pseudolynchia canariensis vector of disease were found on most of pigeons. The average number of infected red blood cells in domestic pigeons carrying H. columbae were determined as 285.7. In addition, no other blood parasites were found in the blood smears. According to the results of microscopic examinations, H. columbae was highest in June (91.3%) while it lowest in February (26.6%). The difference between the microscopic positivity to H. columbae among months was statistically significant (p<0,01).This study indicated that, H. columbae was determined on pigeon in Adana province and was detected on high level in the microscopic examination.Keywords : Domestic pigeon, Haemoproteus columbae, blood parasite, Adana
