Özet

All development areas are important in the preschool period. However, social development is critical. This study aims to determine the perceptions of preschool children regarding rules. The study uses the case study method, one of the qualitative research designs. The study group of this research consists of 235 children aged 48–72 months. All children are attending independent kindergartens affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, located in the center of a province belonging to the Central Anatolia Region. The researcher conducted a semi-structured interview to determine the perceptions of preschool children regarding the rules. Questions such as “What is the rule?,” “Can you tell the rules you know?,” “Who makes the rules?,” and “Why are the rules set?” were asked to the children. The researcher analyzed the data obtained using content analysis, one of the qualitative research methods. The answers given by the children regarding what the rule is were grouped into six categories: home, school, health, safety, interpersonal communication, and other rules. Answering the question “who sets the rules?,” most of the children participating in the research said “mother.” The children participating in the study answered that the rules should be mostly for themselves, for others, and for housecleaning.
