The aim of this study was to determine 6th grade students perceptions of erosion. The phenomenographic research method was used to solicit students views about erosion. The study was carried out with 543 sixth grade students in the 2011-2012 academic year in the city of Nigde. In the data analysis, 7 different classifications of erosion were determined. Results indicated that students considered erosion as: (1) a natural disaster; (2) the movement of soil; (3) a landslide; (4) a loss of soil; (5) the corrosion of soil; (6) the disappearance of soil, and (7) the harm done to nature by human beings.
