Özet

The purpose of this study is to investigate the idioms in Gülten Dayioğlu's stories that were written for 8 years and above in terms of transparency and familiarity degrees. The research is a descriptive survey model. The sample of the study consists of 53 stories. Research was conducted with a total of 901 students who continue their education in second (256), third (423) and fourth (222) grades. The transparency degreeof idioms were identified by 5 experts according to the degree of agreement between literal and figurative meaning of an idiom. A triple-point Likert-type scale was created to determine the degree of familiarity of idioms by participating students. In the result of analyzes, it was identified that partly related idioms are most put in appearance in terms of transparency in analyzed works. And the familiarity of idiomswere identified most as medium level. Moreover, it is identified that the familiarity degree of idioms are significantly differ according to grade variable, but not according to gender variable.
