Abstract
This study was aimed to evaluate the reproductive characteristics and growth performance of 102 heads of local Akkaraman ewes and 60 heads of crossbred (Chios x Karayaka B1) Bafra genotype. Akkaraman and Bafra ewes were found as lambing rates 85.29% and 66.67% (P<0.01), litter size 1.31 and 1.75 lambs (P<0.01), total body weight at 90 days (weaning age) of lambs 46.65 kg and 45.52 kg (P>0.05) and survival rate at weaning age 99.1% and 91.4% (P<0.05), respectively. Average birth weight, live weights at 30, 60 and 90 days of Akkaraman vs Bafra lambs were 4.98; 3.72 kg, 8.09; 7.88 kg, 25.12; 19.52 kg and 35.00; 24.14 kg, respectively, in which genotype was significant (P<0.05) in the birth, 60 and 90 days live weight but was not statistically significant (P>0.05) in the 30 days live weight. The differences in body height, body length, cannon circumference, chest circumference, chest depth, ear length, ear width, rump height, rump circumference measurements were found statistically significant in Akkaraman and Bafra lambs at 30, 60 and 90 days.
