| dc.description.abstract | Black nightshade (Solanum nigrum L.) has become a problematic weed in many crops around the world. This plant has a lot of potentials but it is well known as a common weed that affects crops such as cotton, potato, onion, sunflower, and many crops globally and in Turkey as well. Further, the weed reduces crops quality by competition and crop quality by contaminating the harvested products. Studies on germination of weed plants are important in weed science, the ability of weed seeds to germinate and establish under different conditions of moisture stress or high salt content of soil may enable a weed to limit the growth of crops. Factors that can influence seed germination mostly depend on the weed species. Furthermore, weeds possess an ability to germinate and establish under moisture or salt stress conditions in which the growth of other crop plants mainly restricted. It is therefore important to determine the traits of S. nigrum that can be used to manage and improve agricultural production.
