Özet
Günümüz dinamik rekabet ortamında önemi gittikçe artan yeni ürün geliştirmenin risklerini azaltmak ve başarısını artırmak, ürün geliştirme yöntemlerinin değerlendirilmesini gerekli kılmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı Türkiye'de faaliyette bulunan sanayi işletmelerinin ürün yeniliğine bakışlarını, yeni ürün geliştirme yöntemlerini uygulama düzeylerini ve bunların yeni ürün performansı üzerine etkisini ampirik olarak tespit etmektir. Araştırmada Türkiye'nin 500 büyük işletmesi (İSO 500) içinde yer alan 108 işletmeden toplanan veriler kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre sanayi işletmeleri ürün yeniliğinin stratejik gücünün farkında olup, kademeli ürün yeniliklerine ağırlık vermektedir. Diğer taraftan işletmelerde yeni ürün geliştirme yöntemlerinin kullanım düzeyi düşük olmakla birlikte, istatistiksel analizler ürün geliştirme yöntemlerinin yeni ürün performansı üzerinde pozitif bir etkisi olduğunu göstermektedir.
New product development (NPD) has been recognised as paramount in importance for long-term business survival by many authors. However, NPD is a complex and sizeable activity whose outcome remains largely unpredictable. There are several important methods that can be used to improve the efficiency of NPD process and thus to increase the overall success rate of new products. In this context the aims of this study are to identify: -the level of importance given to new product development by Turkish manufacturing companies, the extent of use of NPD methods -the impact of NPD methods on product innovation performance. To accomplish these objectives a questionnaire was developed and mailed to 432 manufacturing companies listed in "500 Major Industrialized Enterprises of Turkey (2000)", published by the "Istanbul Chamber of Industry". A total of 108 usable responses were received by December 2001. Thus, the response rate is 25 %. The results of the study indicate that although companies in the Turkish manufacturing industry are aware of the strategic importance of NPD, they mainly concentrate their efforts on improving existing products rather than radical developments. Regarding NPD methods it came out that their utilisation the study indicates significant differences in the level of product innovation performance between firms that were users and non-users of NPD methods.
