Öğe Effect of Summer Vacation on Learning Loss in Mathematics: A Meta-Analysis of the Findings(2023) Baş, GökhanThe purpose of the present study was to perform a meta-analysis to draw conclusions about the effect of summer vacation on learning loss of students in mathematics, and also to identify potential moderators of its effects based on the examination of research literature over the past twenty-five years. The research performed meta-analysis model to examine the effect of summer vacation on learning loss in mathematics. Based on the inclusion criteria, eight independent studies were taken into consideration in the research. To explore possible differential effects on the outcome measure, six moderators were extracted from the included studies. The research indicated that summer vacation influences students negatively, resulting in learning loss in mathematics. Also, the research found no significant effect within sub-group variation in terms of year of publication, publication type, setting, and sample size, but not the instructional level and country.Öğe Kompozit takviyeli üst damak diş protezinin farklı sıcaklıklar altında termal gerilme analizi(Niğde Ömer Halisdemir Üniversitesi, 2019) Benli, Semih; Baş, GökhanDiş sağlığını kaybeden hastalarda görüntü, çiğneme, konuşma gibi fonksiyonel bozukluklar görülebilir. Bu fonksiyon bozuklukları insanın hayat standardını direkt olarak etkilemektedir. Bu fonksiyon bozukluklarının giderilmesi amacıyla çıkarılabilir kısmi veya tam protezler sıklıkla kullanılır. Bu çalışmada, sonlu elemanlar metodu kullanılarak üst damak protezinin 0 °C, 36 °C, 70 °C sıcaklık ve uygun sınır koşulları altında CrCo, tek yönlü/örgü karbon epoksi, tek yönlü/örgü cam epoksi, tek yönlü/örgü kevlar epoksi takviyeleri ile beraber, kritik kırılma noktası başlangıcı olan orta hat bölgesinin gerilme analizi incelenmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlar göstermiştir ki protezlerin dayanımını arttırmak için kullanılan bu takviyeler termal yükleme altında takviyesiz numunelere göre yüksek oranda termal kaynaklı gerilmeler oluşturmaktadırÖğe Revisiting the role of private tutoring on student outcomes in East Asian countries: Policies, practices, and implications(IGI Global, 2024) Baş, GökhanThis chapter examines the role of private tutoring (PT) on student outcomes in East Asian countries, with a particular focus on policies and practices. This chapter first outlines the conceptual framework of PT and then discusses the financial burden that PT as an informal out-of-school activity places on parents. The drivers of PT have been analyzed and it has been concluded that they are mostly influenced by variables at student-, school-and country-level. In focusing on the role of PT on student outcomes, the paper emphasizes how PT influences students' academic achievement, motivation, well-being, and parent-child relationships. At the end of the chapter, it has been concluded that although PT has an influence on students' academic achievement particularly in East Asian countries, it raises important questions about students' motivation, well-being and relations with their parents. © 2024, IGI Global. All rights reserved.Öğe Teacher Beliefs About Educational Reforms: A Metaphor Analysis(SAGE Publications Inc., 2021) Baş, GökhanThis study was conducted to examine which metaphors teachers attribute to educational reforms. This research adopted a phenomenological design, in which the data were collected through metaphors. The findings indicated that teachers have negative beliefs about educational reforms. Also, the findings showed that teachers have traditional beliefs about educational reforms, rather than contemporary ones. Although teachers believed that educational reforms are a need for the education system, they perceived reform acts negatively, approaching them from a more traditional perspective. © The Author(s) 2020.Öğe The effect of multiple intelligences theory-based education on academic achievement: a meta-analytic review(EDAM, 2016) Baş, GökhanThe main purpose of this study is to determine the effect of multiple intelligences theory (MIT)-based education on students' academic achievement. In this research, the meta-analytic method was adopted to determine this effect, and studies related to this subject carried out in Turkey were compiled. The effect sizes of the studies included in the meta-analysis were compared in terms of the variables of educational level, course type, being a postgraduate thesis or doctoral dissertation, geographical region, sample size, and duration of experimental procedure. Some specific criteria were taken into consideration for including studies in the meta-analysis. In accordance with these criteria, experimental postgraduate theses/dissertations (N = 75) were included in the research. At the end of the research, MIT-based education was determined to have a large effect size (d = 1.077) on students' academic achievement levels. The explanatory sequential design, which is one of themixed methods research designs, was used in this study. The study group ofthis research consisted of pre-service teachers who were studying at NiğdeÖmer Halisdemir University, Faculty of Education, Pedagogical FormationTraining Certificate Programme (n = 14). While parametric test statisticswere used in the analysis of the quantitative data, content analysistechnique was employed in the analysis of the qualitative data. According tothe results of the study, it was concluded that teaching practices have astatistically significant effect on the attitude of pre-service teachers towardsthe profession and that these practices were not effective in developingtheir sense of efficacy beliefs.
