Özet
The aim of this study is to investigate the loss of natural areas because of urban expansion through gatedcommunities, the numbers of which are constantly increasing and to determine how the process is developing.The field of the study was Beykoz, which is located in the megacity of Istanbul, which is home to the greatestnumber of gated communities in Turkey and where the first examples of gated communities appeared. Thetransformation of forest areas was evaluated through the examples of two different typologies that are located onthe outskirts of the city: an exclusive villa community and a private town gated community.
