One of the instruments of the modernization project in Turkiye's Early Republican Period involved women's education. Women's social transformation was achieved through the girls' institutes that would combine Western civilization with national identity. These buildings were designed by foreign architects such as Ernst Egli and Bruno Taut and promoted modernization. This study focuses on girls' institutes as examples of modern architecture and educational institutions in Turkiye during the Early Republican Period. By focusing on the architecture of the Early Republican Period, the study does an architectural observation through girls' institutes. Within this context, the study examines a total of five separate schools in Ankara, Afyon, Bursa, Izmir, and Manisa. The aims of the study are to examine the founding purposes and curricula of these girls' institutes, to document their architectural features and current conditions, and to evaluate the similarities and differences of these institutes' architectural features by utilizing the parameters of location, plan, facade and construction system. The study utilizes the curricula of the girls' institutes and the contribution from the architectural language of the schools to modern architecture as a basis for discussion. The girls' institutes provide solid evidence of the image and role of women and the efforts made toward women's education. Preserving the architectural identities of these buildings and benefitting from them properly with appropriate interventions are crucial, whether for having them continue to provide vocational education or for changing their function.
