Özet
The aim of this research is to determine the way in which secondary school students' idioms, perceptions and reading attitudes towards reading. The participants of the descriptive research constituted 529 secondary school students who continued their education in three different cities. The data of the research was collected by a questionnaire consisting of 10 items. Percentages and frequencies of responses to the questionnaire reflecting the habits, practices and attitudes to reading were determined. According to the findings obtained, 60,1% of participants were very satisfied with reading, 46,3% of them read books almost every day, and 57,1% thought that they read as much as they were. On the other hand, participants reported positive attitudes towards reading, while negative statements reported low attendance. In terms of reading tools, it was determined that the participants preferred adventure in terms of literary genres, mostly reading jokes, journals and stories. In terms of places where reading is preferred, most of the participants see the bedroom as a home, the classroom as a school, and the public as a place to read travel. Participants think that reading is mostly peaceful in terms of reading reason. Finally, the participants are mostly read with their teachers and usually share what they have achieved with their friends. © 2018, Ankara University. All rights reserved.
